Spiralling insurance costs
Not Disco-related, but a quote I received today from British Gas for house and contents insurance made me think. Last year, £190, renewal £418. Even for BG that's a high price for customer apathy. Thank goodness it is not on auto-renew!

Moo look at this extract from HMRC.
When HMRC can repay or remit duties
For each full import declaration, your claim must be more than 10 euros (£8.86) in value for goods imported on or before 31 December 2020 and more than £9 in value for goods imported after 31 December 2020. We can repay or remit customs duties when:
you paid duties that were not due, for example, an over payment
you reject the imported goods because they’re damaged or defective, or do not meet the conditions of their contract
the debt results from:
an error made by customs authorities that you could not have identified
circumstances that put you in an exceptional situation compared to other businesses, is outside of normal commercial risk and not the result of any negligence or deception on your part
you pay the duties but you ask us to invalidate the customs declaration, for example on mail order goods

oh
in that case, according to the web page linked below, it would appear to be based on how much the goods originally cost.

I know of a couple of Leavers who are appalled that access to their home in France is being disrupted since Brexit. He improved things by somehow acquiring an Irish passport but she, having nipped back to England for a week, was refused entry to France until hubby came to the airport with his "European" passport to accompany her.
If Labour committed to rejoining the EU, they'd get my vote regardless of any other pre-election promises they make, and that's saying something..

Air BnB
Never used them before and tried to last night.
Found a promising place, booked up, went to pay by CC & then had to verify myself. Fair enough, but they want a scan of my Passport, Driving Licence or "Government ID".
Being the victimn of identity theft some years ago I am more than reluctant to let anyone have the sort of data that's on those documents. My name & address are on public record so all a scammer needs is a little more data.
Air BnB appears to be a US owned company, with offices round the world - they could have ntheir databases anywhere.
ATM I'm "conversing" with Air BnB via messaging but like many companies thesedays you simply cannot find an email address.
I appreciate that ID is important to hosts but there are limits.
