Brexit!
Trying to buy some things for my wife from Germany. They used to supply the UK but have pulled out because of the cost and hassle of our new trading relationship. I can understand why. I was going to buy them and ship them over until I saw the costs and efforts involved.
I'm in Dusseldorf next week, so could get them sent to my hotel, but they're too big to bring back and I'll probably get stopped anyway.
Also sent something to Ireland last week. Frustrating is an understatement!
I also want some parts for my Defender, but its going to be cheaper to drive to Belgium, buy them and have them fitted, than do the same in the UK. New Defender L663 110 SE (known as Noddy!)

Over the last couple of days I have had about a dozen emails from various gmail addresses saying DPD-Package_Delivery and asking me to click a link, no fancy graphics, just text.

More of a curious fact, I’d always assumed that 18 was the age at which you could begin a Medical degree. It certainly is with a lot of Unis, although some let you in at 17, it’s down to the individual establishments, but I was speaking to my eldest and he told me there was a 16 year old 1st year! then I looked into it and some other Unis have no age limit.
Don’t get me wrong, this girl must be very bright to have got to do the course, but I can’t help but feel she is just too young atm.

A key element to being a medical practitioner are life and social skills. At 16 going into academia it’s going to be hard to get those. The risk is at that age you become institutionalised.New Defender L663 110 SE (known as Noddy!)

Not many 18 years olds I know have much in the way of life or social skills either
We had a lad at school who'd rattled off , iirc, 12 o-levels by 14 and 4 A-levels by 16, so would easily have met any qualification requirements.
Moo's point about social skills, however, was clearly demonstrable..

Under the American system, you have to have done a 1st degree before you take a Medicine degree. Seems reasonable imho.
Anyway, these are the recent yearly figures of one university. The number of graduates applying is large in comparison to the interviews and thereafter the offers. Seems replicated with other Unis.
I also think the MBChb is strange in the way they don’t award first class degrees or 2.1 etc. I suppose if they did, you’d be asking your Doctor what they got before deciding to let him treat you!
I think the pass mark is 50% for other non Medicine degrees it’s 40%. I mean would you want a Solicitor who was only right under half the time.

She might be aiming for medical research which, whilst not as glamorous as being a doctor, probably has much less requirement for the social skills aspect.
Having said that, I've dealt with doctors who have poor social skills, AKA bed-side manner, and they were middle aged. Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

British Airways - still no response to my claim for expenses and compensation on a 23 hour delay (on a 1hr 30 min flight !) from a flight on the 1st September, today they refused to give out an email address for their legal department and refused to do anything (other than refer me to the CAA???)... time for a solicitors letter I think I want to see the sweets before I get into your windowless van... I'm not stupid!

I think it's more a case of incompetence by BA rather than anything to do with Brexit...I want to see the sweets before I get into your windowless van... I'm not stupid!

just read an article where a family of 8 on holiday in USA were denied boarding their BA flight home as the plane had been downsized by BA and was full.
They had to wait 2 days for the next available flight and applied for compensation on their return. BA failed to respond for (IIRC) a couple of months until they were contacted by the press for comment and then 10k compensation was paid out plus £750 for incurred expenses for the 2 extra days.
i dont fly but seems BA's reputation and level of services is rapidly going down the pan.2011 D4 XS 305 MY12 - gone but not forgotten

I graduated with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering aged 20 and am pretty-sure doing so counted against me for a looooong time. Social skills? What are social skills? They sound suspiciously like a Humanities course....

I'm a BA Gold member but after a few recent trips where the service has been really poor and they lied to me, I've decided to reduce my flying with them and go elsewhere. KLM / Airfrance are proving good but I do miss the ease of T5.
