Hello,
I am brandnew in my Discovery3javascript:emoticon(' ')
I come from Defender where i used difflock for slippery situations.
In my D3 automatique there is no TR-button.
Is it correct that i resume from this topic that switching off the DSC, replaces kind off the difflock situation in the Def?
I also presume that i have to put the automatic gear into the 'sport'..?

DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) is seperate from Difflock.
DSC reduces power to the wheels to try and stop the vehicle sliding and bring it back under control, However, when you are trying to go uphill, or just progress forward in slippery condition then you want the wheels to slip and maintain momentum rather than slow down, or you'll just end up stopping !!.
any terrain that is slippery from grass to muddy ruts its best to turn DSC off when going uphill
But have a play for youself - try a climb with DSC switched On and you'll see how the power is reduced, switch DSC off and you will suddenly notice a surge in power and momentum will be maintained.
Going downhill in slippery conditions you want DSC on. if the car starts to slip DSC will do its stuff and help you get back under control.
Also, dont be led astray by the Terrain Response Names - for instance, you may not always find "Mud and Ruts" is the bets setting when driving in mud and ruts. if you are trying to climb a steep muddy rutted hill, you may find that "Sand" mode is best because it allows better throttle response and keeps the revs higher. Ive had several failed hill climbs in "Mud and Ruts" , only to change to "Sand" and make it up in one go.. Duncan

Right, i understand, DSC is more a power controller like the Hill Descent.
Is there anyway to control the diffs, standard in this Landrover?

the diffs are automatically controlled - they just do their stuff when they need to 
you can lock the centre and rear locking diff manually (if you have it) - by putting into LowRatio, RockCrawl and 1st gear Duncan

Thread bump. 
Have another off road day on sunday, some light trails but there is a few steep hills with grass, one straight after a deep river crossing.
I'm assuming for the hill it would be best to switch off DSC and use some of the power to get up it.
Also, is there a way of stopping the HDC coming on with every response change?
Last run, i changed from mud and ruts to GGS and the HDC came on, tried to slow the car and has me slide gently into a shallow mossy ditch  Drove out after a few attempts.
Have been told i can use the cruise control buttons to change the speed at which the HDC activates, true?

I am sure I read that the cruise control can be used to speed up/slow down the HDC.
Regarding switching off DSC. No idea. Not had any reason to do that yet, even when heading out over steepish sand dunes my 8 year old could not walk up. Discovery 4 2.7 SE

HDC will activate when you change TR setting but you can use the cruise control + and - to set the speed at which the car moves when HDC is on. best not to set too slow on a steep sloop or the car will just slide.
try it out on a steep road first and see how it works Duncan

It was a member on here that told me about the cruise control trick. Tim in Scotland his name is, he told me about it, once the run had finished though
Is there a upper limit to how fast you can set it? Assuming it works at 5mph as standard like my old freeby.
My off road driving experience is very limited so reading loads of threads to gain info, don't want to be the car that carries the ditch magnet on the run. Been there and would rather not be it again. There's a few steep hills nearby so will have a play and see how it goes.

Does this apply to D3 and is that a manual box or also auto? Volvo XC60 - does all that the D4 should have done
