Time for the 105K Service...

Just booked in for 105K service with Statstones Solihull for the grand total of £716 including VAT and a loan car which I thought was a good price as local stealer and imdi quoting £973/£960. Didn't have to haggle just told them I wasn't local and was looking for a good price. Just goes to show that a few minutes on the phone can save you some dosh !!

Karl,

Specifically ask them to check the oil pump casing, that way if you are unfortunate enough to have a problem afterwards, you can at least say it was checked by LR.

Also, get them to change all the idlers, not just the one in the timing belt kit. Should really cost you anything more on labour. Thumbs Up

Are they quoting for using genuine cambelt bits?

I have it on good authority that a local Stratstone dealer up here does not Confused

As far as I am aware they are. I'll ask the question and find out, but can't see why not as the cost of the timing belt kit is not massive.

I thought stratstone garages all did the £599 all in for 7year/105,000mile service,
Though they don't change the idler bearings, none do unless asked to and it's an extra £40 or so.
Doncaster stratstone are/were still doing the £599inc for 7year service Thumbs Up

Why can't they be using genuine parts Tom Tom?
The pulleys and belts come in the kit. I am sure you can get the kits for around £180.
You get no bearings for the pulleys in the kit. They are £38 Thumbs Up

The front idler pulleys don't come in the timing belt kit the tensioner pulleys do NOT the idler pulleys (or idler bearings)
The front kit is about £100 the rear £50 and the idler pulleys are £45 each genuine so if they are quoting £38 for both then they aren't using genuine ones unless they are getting them at below cost price.

I was told the pulleys and belts come in a kit?
Was also told no new bearings come in the kit for the pulleys as they just swap em over, if you want new bearings for the pulleys the bearings cost £38.
This is just what I was told by Ripon land rover, Doncaster stratstone and green oval ( who we had it done with) and nearly every garage we rang.
Was also told that there are 2 different kits available depending on age of vehicle.

If I have been fed a crock of s Censored t then I apologise for regurgitating it Thumbs Up
To be fair though every garage told me the same, main dealer and independent Thumbs Up

In each belt kit, you get a new belt and tensioner. The idler pulleys are extra, above the belt kits Thumbs Up

I guess I am confusing the tensioner pulleys for idler pulleys!
Embarassed
Do the idler pulleys require changing or does sticking in new bearings in them prolong the lifespan sufficiently?

Apologies Tom Tom Thumbs Up
I am an idiot sometimes Embarassed

A little knowledge and all that.......

Embarassed
