No Oil Pressure.... Engine Goosed??
Afternoon all,
Just had a brief chat with my wife who is being recovered from the side of the road in our D3.
She heard a 'ticking' sound and within a mile or so had got to a point where even she thought it was bad and pulled into the side of the road (busy dual carrigeway). The pressure light came on and she switched off and called the RAC. He has been and had a look, started it and it sounds really "bad". No oil pressure indicated......
Currently waiting for a recovery to our local main dealer. Car is 3 months out of warranty and naturally I have not extended it Well after all it is a premium car with only 35k on it, my BMW has 175k and is fine...
Whats the opinion? I'm assuming a failed pump? Any ideas?
Assuming the engine is goosed, any ideas on what LR want for a replacement and what they are like at "goodwill" gestures.
First time i've had a car thats not German for 15 years and this is the result.....
Car has plenty of oil in it. Checked by me last week and by the RAC guy, was full when I checked and he says its still on the dipstick. Car serviced by dealer 3 months and 3k ago.
Feel like going and setting fire to it quite frankly..
Cheers

Can't offer much help but good luck, worth having somthing on the paperwork from the RAC to say there was oil on the dipstick.

I'd suggest waiting to see what is reported by the dealer before jumping to conclusions based on an RAC man...... The older I get, the more I realise that people confuse wrinkles for wisdom

Recovered to dealer...
RAC say it sounds shot.. No oil pressure, but not seized as it turned over and ran. No obvious leaks and can of only lost a litre at most?
Anyone know of a good indie garage in Kent if it turns out to be fatal?
Cheers for the feedback.

Stuart Gilbert is a good indipendant, you may have seen his Series LR parked next to the old A2 heading towards Sittingbourne. I went to him with my wifes old TD5, and said I have a D3, he said no probs bring it in.
Your best bet is to wait and see what the Dealers say, and please tell me they aint in Ashford , and then give 10forCash a PM with the diagnosis. He more than likely can help you better than any dealership
That old series parked on the A2 is owned and advertises Pegasus Garages, unless there are two parked at the side of the A2 Women are like swimming pools, very expensive for the amount of time you spend in them!

If its the oil pump that's gone, it doesn't seem to bad a job. Did the RAC guy check the pressure with an extenal gauge or did he rely on what could be a faulty pressure switch

Morning
Thanks for the comments so far. To be fair, the RAC didn't say the pump was shot, thats just my speculation. The dealer can't look at it until late afternoon at the earliest. I'm just sitting at home fretting about what sort of bill i'm going to be presented with.
One part of me is hoping it's something minor! But somehow I don't think it's going to be the case....
Airhog,
I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. Hopefully your wife did the right thing and stopped before any major damage was done to the engine.
Good luck.

Sumps been dropped and is full of metal.....
Thats that then. Anyone got an idea of where to source a recon/second hand engine?
Last time I buy british, products like this, I can't help thinking they deserve to go to the wall.
Cheers

I know your upset, but it doesn't happen that often so I don't think it is a British thing or that they deserve to go to the wall.
Have you spoken to Land Rover as if your only 3 months out of warranty I would expect them to help. There is also a EU law on cars failing and I think a 6 year limit applies.
Give LRCS a call. At that mileage, with a full sump and full service history, you have a strong moral case for some assistance with this.I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.
