United Kingdom 2008 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE Manual Stornoway GreyDiscovery 3

I always use ‘C’ grade oil even though I don’t have a dpf. I figure that low ash oil must be cleaner, just a gut feeling, no knowledge involved Smile

No DPF then 5/30 B5 oil is the grade you need. The brand is entirely personal choice.
Have a read thro' the posts and you'll see a world of opinions, make of that what you will.

Change interval is also key, some now doing oil/filters at 6 or 8k on the older engines.

Hi

How many instead of using 5/30 engine oil have gone over to 5/40 please , mines just a standard non chipped 2.7 and been using 5/30

Is there any advantages plse, apologises for the daft question

Many thks as always Thumbs Up

Citroen (with this same engine), actually recommend 5W40 ACEA: B3 or B4 during the winter season.

But I would stick with 5w30 in England

Just looking for some suitable oil for the next change, does anyone have any advice / is the below suitable for my D3?

https://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-69393-castrol...e-oil.aspx

2005 Discovery 3, manual
2.7 TDV6
240,000 miles
No DPF

It's not listed on Opie Oils for my car but is a 5W30 spec and also C3 (which should be fine, and seems to have a good HTHS?). Also a pretty decent price for the 4 litre bottles.

I have just done mine and used this, also from Opie

https://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-69392-castrol...e-oil.aspx

Does seem quieter and smoother although new oil and filter does anyway.

Have been tempted but am still not 100% sure on deviating from 5W30, given the TDV6's fussiness on oil... I did watch the LR Time video about it but not quite there.

240,000 miles so far on 5W30 so would be difficult to say it was the right thing to change to 5W40 now Shocked

I would say at 240000 miles you have been using the right oil for your car, if it ain't broke don't fix it Thumbs Up

I’ve just gone over to the mannol oil, at £55 delivered, enough for three changes. Anyone else using it?

I've been using Mannol oils for engines and gearboxes for about 7 years.
Good quality and decent prices especially when on offer on the bay.

I’ve yet to find better value oil than Smith and Allan. As recommended on here and the sister FFRR site amongst many other places.

https://www.smithandallan.com/

They also have a very knowledgeable and friendly technical dept.

Not sure why I put manual above, it's an auto, brain fart... Rolling Eyes TGIF

Not that it matters for engine oil.

Do Opie Oils still post on this forum / do a forum discount ?

Which oil at 190.000 km / 118.000 mi

Hi everybody!

My car: D4 2013 155 kW WITHOUT DPF, 190.000 km SALLAAAM6DA

Which oil? Confused

Looked in my (2012) and other manuals

2009 WSS-M2C934-B If not available 5W30 ACEA C2
2012 WSS-M2C934-B If not available 5W30 ACEA C2
2013 WSS-M2C913-C If not available 5W30 ACEA A5B5

ACEA C2 New since 10/2004, sulfated ash content max. 0.8%. HTHS ≥2.9 mPas
ACEA A5/B5 Category for engine oils with lowered HTHS viscosity of 2.9-3.5 mPas Corresponds to class ACEA A3/B4 in all other standards.
(A3B4 category for engine oils and HTHS viscosity of ≥ 3.5 mPas with higher requirements for direct injection diesel engines, marked B4.)

Found:

MOTUL 8100 ECO-clean+ 5W-30
Lowered HTHS viscosity provides reduced fuel consumption.
Recommended for Mazda 5 Series, 6 Series diesel engines with DPF PERFORMANCE ??? I don’t have.
STANDARDS ACEA C1 ??? not C2
APPROVALS FORD WSS-M2C934-B JAGUAR STJLR.03.5005
FORD 934B describes specially formulated low SAPS oils - engine oils with low sulfur (0.2%), phosphorus (0.05%) and sulfated ash (0.5%) content with lowered HTHS viscosity. Especially for the new models (from EURO 4) with diesel engines with DPF
JAGUAR STJLR.03.5005 Jaguar and Land Rover have introduced their own service fill release system since 2014. The previously used Ford specification WSS-M2C-934B is replaced by this new service fill release. For Jaguar and Land Rover O EURO 5/ EUR6 diesel engines (2.2 L, 2.7 L and 3.0 L V6). Retroactively usable for diesel engines with DPF, where FORD WSS-M2C-934B was required.

Engine oil 550059445 SHELL

Model: Ultra Prof AJ-L
Viscosity grade SAE: 5W-40
Specification: ACEA C1 again not C2
Product line: Helix
Manufacturer release: Ford WSS-M2C934-B, STJLR.03.5005

Engine Oil 3729 LIQUI MOLY
Model: 4500
Viscosity grade SAE: 5W-30
Specification: ACEA C1, JASO DL-1
Product range: Top Tec
Oil: Partial synthetic oil ??
Manufacturer approval: STJLR.03.5005, Ford WSS-M2C934-B

Castrol EDGE Professional with TITANIUM FST™ represents our best and most powerful passenger car engine oils, providing excellent engine performance even under critical engine loads.
Castrol EDGE Professional C1 5W-30 is suitable for use in gasoline and diesel automotive engines for which the manufacturer recommends a 5W-30 engine oil type ACEA C1 or ACEA C2.
Castrol EDGE Professional C1 5W-30 is specially designed for use in vehicles Ford WSS-M2C934-B or STJLR.03.5005 specification.
HTHS not in the data sheet

My workshop recommends Mobil 1 ESP 5W30, but this oil is ACEA C3 with a HTHS of 3.5

In my opinion, Castrol Edge would fit best or is there a better suitable oil because of the 190.000 km?

Can anyone say if the following oil is ok for the Discovery 4 3L TDv6.

Millers Oils Trident Professional C1 5w-30 Fully Synthetic Engine Oil.

And is £49.30 inc delivery for 7L a fair price?

Thanks.
