Interesting. I notice that the source is sufficiently well informed to describe the DS as being powered by a 2.2 diesel engine as late as two months ago. Oops
With all due respect, what makes you think Tata motors wouldn't use the underpinnings of a JLR vehicle for their next release?

Looking at the UK DS, you can spend over £50k on a DS. Over £50k! And to add insult to injury, if you buy the top of the range called "HSE Dynamic Lux" you have to add the adpative dynamics pack as a further 900 quid option! You'd think a "dynamic" would have the dynamic pack, wouldn't you? P*ss being taken I feel.Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

Or you can buy one for less than £30k with discount
Seriously though I saw the F type SVR is £110k and there's a waiting list

Red Merle - the 2.2 is still fitted outside Europe so this is accurate
I didn't know that, I wonder what the reason for that is.
As for the styling, it looks closer to an FL2 than a DS - I'd imagine the local market's going to look for "practical" and plenty of room for the whole family! It looks fit for purpose to me 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2
2015 - 2017: 2 x D4
2017 to date: FFRR SDV8
2023 to date: 2 x FL2 as “second” cars 🙄

2.2 was banned in Europe from September 15 and euro 6 was brought in (ingenium)

I wonder if LR consider people having BIG dogs in the boot
Hmmmm, I'm really not sure about what seems to be just an oversized D5. My D4 might be my Landrover as LR seem to be chasing the bling. (I remember when Jerry McGovern first joined Rover, working under Geoff Upex), and at the time CB40 aka Freelander - the "breadvan" was all about function over form. it seems that this is no longer the case and with the aid of the likes of that fashion "icon" Victoria Beckham, they've sold their sole to the Chavs.
Discovery is a hybrid vehicle both utilitarian and SUV combined, and as such it's worth is that it was box shaped, permitting the maximum available space. This has worked for so many, but now the roofline seems to be ever diminishing! and a slope backwards should only be found on hairdressers cars.
I've been a loyal Discovery fan, having had 16 x Discoverys and by far the best Discovery has to be the D4. If you've large dogs, and I have two huge Bernese Mountain dogs, plus I'm a diver so lots of equipment (dive cylinders etc...) and often go camping, all at the same time, there' few vehicles whihc can acommodate all my stuff, is incredibly comfortable, riding well as if its not even full.
I've often thought that the interior could always have been utiised more efficiently, and paniers/mesh basket could have been fitted over the rear windows which seems to be lost space.
I've taken a D5 sport out for a spin today, as my D4 is being serviced, and just for a laugh put both my large poochies in the boot. They weren't impressed!!! and I was wonderinng what exactly do LR consider that us the customers put in the boot. I know in Rover and BMW it was a set of golf clubs and a bicycle, but thats nothing. I've previously put my doggies in FFRR and also in a RR Sport, again the floor level is too high (something to do with too much stuff underfloor) and as such my doggies weren't impressed.
So my real concern is, if the fullsize D5 (FFD5)? has a useful size (and shaped boot) that can easily accommodate two (often three) big dogs. I would also prefer at least the option of a split tailgate, but that seems an ever diminishing likihood.
So we all wait with baited breath, to see how LR have used the same platform as the new Ford Explorer and hopefully its not a carbon copy, so much so that they lose the identity and reputation built up by so many generatons of Discovery.
I do remember when cahnging from a D2 to D3, thinging that the D3 was a Tonka toy, but learned to love it, not just becasue of its styling, but its availability accommodate so much, effortlessly that I put inside of it. Lets just hope and prey that Jerry's not been on something and come up with something less than memorable!!!

Good post and this is my main concern. We have great danes and labrador and the Disco is perfect, I had a FFRR on order and cancelled due to the boot space so they lost out on sale there and if the D5 doesn't work then I'm screwed as far as landrover ownership is concerned MY06 S - Gone but not forgotten

I've owned or driven every vehicle LR have built since 2000 and everything is going smaller inside and bigger outside - parking a RRS2 or FFRR in my garage or a car park is impossible
The DS saved the day for me because it's bigger inside than the FL2 but only 99mm bigger in length
The D4 is a perfect commercial/leisure vehicle at moment but I fear it isn't going to be looking at spy shots - LR are in danger of making jelly mould vehicles like Audi/BMW Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Wishful thinking her for me:
I would like to think this is the the type of picture the design team have on the inspiration wall at landrover HQ. Its my family this weekend which pretty much sums up the Disco for me. 5 people, big dogs, lots of gear, outdoor activities and barbecuing on the DROP DOWN tailgate !
Visiting the showroom and opening that new tailgate for the first time will be quite a nerve racking experience for me

On opening the FFD5 tailgate - do we stay or leave
I agree, if LR have compromised both the tailgate and boot space dimensions then on opening the tailgate it'll be crystal clear as to whether I stay loyal or go elsewhere. If I go, so may of my friends are also likely to follow, so LR will lose out for not listening or understanding the requirements of their customer base.
Unfortunately I already know colleagues, that change their vehicle more frequently than myself, who dabbled with the FFRR/RR Sport because the D4 interior was againg. They found both the FFRR and RRS didn't have the boot space and wasn't flexible enough. They too had D4's and like me a hoping that the FFD5 spyshot is just a ruse. Unfortunatlety I think it isn't which will be such a shame.
