Given the amount of people that want a split tailgate I'm looking forward to seeing LR's "activity platform" that will replace the lower tailgate when down. I'm hopeful it will be manual and not electronic and also larger in size to the D3/D4's current lower tailgate.16 D4 Landmark

Sorry, I don't care how useful it is, but I won't be using anything called an "activity platform", even if it does suit the Discovery's descent into Land Rover's "leisure brand". Yuck!!!
Much more of this and I'll earn my full membership to the crotchety old g*ts section on Landyzone! 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

Here's my boys crammed into the back of a D5S
Lets just hope these two, and the one in the forground is still a puppy!!, when fully grown fit in the FFD5 better than they do in the D5S. They weren't amused, and thankfully only had to endure a couple of miles journey.
Also, one thing that I've noticed is that looking in the rearview mirror is a D5S it's like looking through a letterbox. Also, looking down the bonnet, and in the wingmirrors the vison around the vehicle is appalling. The One big selling point of the current D4 is its command driving posiiton, but it would seem that LR are on a push for higher waistlines on the vehicles, which seems to obscure the all round vision.
There's not a lot of space in here dad!!!!

Proper dogs! Excellent
I've only the one border collie in mine and he rattles around a bit, but he loves it. He likes the dipped glass a lot; I know that as its where the dog glass snot lives
He particularly likes the fold down bit as he'll sit on that until someone comes up to say "hello" to him. I don't know what he'd make of an "activity platform", he'd probably be embarrassed to be seen on it 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

"Social Seating" dear me.
Thats not social seating its stuff to go wrong, this is social seating that works:
Don't get me wrong I love tech but I'm equally a very big fan of simple reliable design where it matters and the tailgate is where it matters for me MY06 S - Gone but not forgotten

Our puppy also likes to sit in lower (dipped) glass section too, and its that section on our tailgate that gots the dog snot too
Our like sitting on the lower tailgate section too, as they're not allowed to jump in/out (as they're very heavy beasties!! and could hurt themselves). But as they sit out on the tailgate, it safeguards the panelwork either side of the apperture from them scratching it with their collars.
Hmmm, I wait with baited breath to somekind of "activity platform". Myguess is this contraption is going too steal valueable height from the loadspace, when a much simpler solution already exists - the platform is the lower tailgate section. Obviously a case of baffles brains.

I can't agree strongly enough. Like you we also site on the lower tailgate, with the poochies and its effortless.

I wonder how D1 and 2 owners managed without a split tailgate
My one has been nothing but problems, had to slam it shut when I first got it, adjusted by the dealer, it doesn't sit flush with the lower part and now it creaks badly. It's a complete pain when trying to reach into the boot. Handy for some but for me good riddance.
Having said that I've cancelled my deposit for a D5 in favour of a 3 year old FFRR SDV8, hopefully around the start off next year if not I will keep my current Disco until a FFRR comes into budget.23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green

Confused with the D5S nomenclature being used - a Disco Sport is a Disco Sport - no 5 here - Freelander 3 would be better...
In all seriousness I loved the split tailgate on my D3's - made a great platform for everything from Barbecuing to seating to Dog Cleaning to Photographing from.
PS - pickups with canopies have fine split tailgates and more than enough room for large pooches in the back - though not if they're a bit pampered... I've even stripped the plastic ribs off my lower gate and carpeted it so its like the D3/D4 I'll shut up now so as not to lower the tone of this thread any further Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)

Interesting. I have to slam mine too, but I'd never asked for it to be adjusted as I'd always assumed that the tight fit was what stopped it from creaking when the body twists...
I've spent some time on Autotrader "dream" shopping for a used FFRR; in my case, it's never going to happen, but what a car! They don't half hold their value though...
