Yes, could be a bit of exposed reversing light.
Surely the no. plate will be square and off to the left. If so, the recess that's it's in on the photo is an odd bit of design if it is a one piece tail gate.
Reverse lights, they are the same as fitted to the DS, which were p s poor even with LED upgrade.
I've been studying those images and from what I can make out that particular D5 doesn't have a split tailgate. It looks pretty much as per the DS.23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green

Just a quick bit of Photoshop this morning proves just how similar the concept and final production car are.
The two photos used are of a slightly different angle so some pieces (front end) don't quite fit but it's pretty close.
So have they been clever with their sticky back plastics and number plate placement and does this really have a split tailgate:
With that shape it does look like a split tailgate
The more I look at the pictures of the rear, the more convinced I am that there is a split tailgate.
Even on this pic, while quite pixelated, if you zoom in you can make out a faint line that runs at a slight angle from the bottom of the rear light cluster towards the number plate.
I'm convinced this faint line is where the sun is catching the wrap over the shut lines and causing a shadowing/highlighting!Front Runner Rack, OEM Ladder & RAI, Tuff-Trek Foxwing, B'rakhah Ingonyama Expedition Trailer, RLD's Spare Wheel Protector, Bodsy's Bars, Empty Pockets!
