If the extending platform has the back rest thingy on it, as in the concept, I'll be happy. As it's no good for me and the dog.

This what it will look like, single piece tailgate and extending platform. Not sure if the platform is an option, or whether it has the 'social seating' built in.2012 - 8 Speed D4 HSE in Indus Silver with surround cameras, adaptive headlamps, privacy glass, rear entertainment, 20" alloys.

I've looked at the most recent spy shots and I can't wrap my head around why LR would produce the D5 with such a similar shape to the RRS. I realize they share the same platform but have they really lost the ability to make the different models distinguishable from each other?!16 D4 Landmark

That "Event platform" looks if it compromises fitting a towing hook; if that is so then for us it will be out of the frame.
I suspect it can be achieved with a highly cantilevered design but that is not an elegant engineering solution.

I'm still wondering if that weird number plate surround is the last piece of camo hiding the all important split. Things that are automatic and sliding are not fast. with the dogs it's great how you drop the tailgate let them jump up and close it immediately behind them leaving a controlled area to remove leads. Waiting for things to slide in and out and close will not be as slick from that perspective.MY06 S - Gone but not forgotten

I use a dog crate as the slow opening on RRS was recipe for disaster with an excitable dog - I know an owner whos dog was jumping out as opening and trapped foot in catch mechanism housing falling out with foot pinned
I'm just fitting towbar to DS and it's the worst design I've ever seen (bit like removing body to repair engine) - shows 2 hour on instructions but took an hour to remove mudflaps then had to remove skid plate, bumper, lights, rear bar, underbody panel and drop exhaust. I started at 3 in the afternoon and gave up at 10 so it's still in bits. Just about to start again now
I've done loads in past without breaking a sweat Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW
It's concern about the interaction between the tailgate & dogs, plus of course price, which are my main reservations about the D5.
I'd also love to see a petrol engined version - dream on....Am I Gammon or Woke ? - I neither know nor care.

Price will be the deciding factor for me, because from those recent cammo photos and interior photos it doesn't look like it will be worth the inevitable price increase over the current car.
My plan at the moment is to replace my current Disco with a used FFRR. I'm FFRR forum stalker at the moment 23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green

You only have to look at BMW/AUDI all look the same and sell thousands .Most people now just by the brand not what it looks like or drives etc.

I think the "activity platform" is right in front of us. Look at the rear lower trim on both of these D5 test mules. On the first the camouflage wrap is tight to the lower bumper trim, the second extends outwards....perhaps they deployed the platform and the wrap kept it from extending or the wrap stuck to it and it didn't retract. Or, maybe this is how far it sticks out in general....
