it ain't gonna look so nice with bits of foam on the corners of the open tailgate because I keep banging my ***kin' head :evil
that will be a monster tailgate (albeit electric) so if goes this way it's possibly FFRR or very late D4 for meIllegitimi Non Carborundum

I can see a potential problem with the activity platform. If you have a dog crate, it will interfere with the operation, especially when retracting. Unless it slides under a false floor but that is not clear (to me) in the video above.Never take life too seriously. Nobody gets out alive anyway.

As we always thought, front end is sharp but that back end is well fugly. And the tailgate / boot space will be a compromise for most folk. I'm sure it will be a fantastic drive and it will be pricey for sure.
I'm still happy opting for the D4 Landmark last week.
but how the flippin heck can a 2.0 litre Disel even one uprated fromthe Ingenium 180 currently inthe XF expect to cope with a large 4x4 thats maybe used for towing ?...does it have booster rockets for the start ups ?
And I wouldnt be shelling out for a large premium luxury vehicle like this with a tadpole like engine...
The D3 was a logical & practical progression for what went before (D1...D2) - with more / bigger / better that gave us (well sold to us) a fantastic vehicle that was far away from being a fashion accessory with "bling"...a practical working vehicle.
Well all have to wait & see...but the possible lack of behind the front seats space would imediately deter me....& no dipstickBREXIT - done properly.

D3 HSE-perfectly formed, passenger friendly...has real DIPSTICK
Jag XK-but sadly no DIPSTICK...HUGE design fault
FL2 has DIPSTICK..."real comfort in rear seats"
VW Golf wondermobile (?)..has real DIPSTICK
Morris Minor..original DIPSTICK technology..and a real KEY.

The rear legroom in the DS is limousine standard due to clever design and if this translates to D5 you have nothing to worry about
I understand there will be 2.0 i4 and 3.0 i6 options for the engine. Weight savings should make the 2.0 adequate for lots of people on a tighter budget Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

On the dipstick - last week I got a warning on phone that oil level was critically low and to stop asap to top up
I checked the dipstick and found it full so used the LR assistance button to contact them for advice.
Technician said to ignore it as dipstick was showing no issue.
He said good job it's proper dipstick not electronic or we'd have a problem Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

The 2.0ltr will most likely be the "Eco" model in the range, as per DS and Evoque. Will more than likely do without low range and aimed at company car drivers perhaps.
It would suit me for what I use my Disco for, I venture into the rough now and then but nothing that tests the Disco, but I think I would get that feeling of being short changed.23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green

That tailgate seems to require a fair bit of headroom to open. Need to watch where you park in low carparks.
I would probably miss my split tailgate but I also expect that many (possibly the majority) of disco drivers curse it for making it impossible to reach into the boot so if it does go, I wont be surprised. The D3 was launched with about 190bhp and weighed over 2.5ton which gave it 76bhp/ton and a fairly high thirst but yet sold like hotcakes. Todays 2.0 can more than match that power output and the vehicle should be significantly lighter so while is might not be as quick as todays D4's, not everyone wants that. Fuel efficiency is important to some and CO is very important to business buyers.

I won't make up my mind completely until I've seen it in the flesh but the section I really dislike is the Freelander lines around the rear door and boot glass.
It would have looked much better to keep the same discovery vertical door lines.

it goes higher up than that - I screenshotted the video at the point where all the tailgate was still on screen

Don't open it in your low garage then! 2005 D3 HSE 2011 D4 Landmark 2016 D4 HSE Lux

Maybe it's clever in a Tesla-gull-wing sort of way and has sensors to stop it re-fashioning the garage ceiling?

Agreed. Looks like it could be a bit dark in the very back as the windows seem small. Maybe the 3rd row will be only any good for teenagers.
An electric activity platform at the rear is a recipe for disaster in my opinion. A gadget for the sake of a gadget which I'm sure plenty of people will go with but not sure I'd be confident out of warranty!!

Speaking to a chap at weekend who is working on the D5 for JLR he confirmed there was a petrol version, 3rd row of seats not quite a good as current D4 ones as less space but would not confirm either way about split tailgate!
