I still don't understand what all the fuss is about. It had to be updated into something more modern. LR are a business who sell cars so they are trying to sell more of them, I think they're succeeding. The D3/4 was old despite it's incredible ability it was old, 12 years old which is prehistoric for a car. They have done what they had to do and some compromise had to be made. The rear event seating is there for those who couldn't live without it, it never really bothered me. The seats in my 4 crush a little but I don't leave the back down any longer than I need to. The seat moving in the 3/4 is a chore compared to most cars so the electric system takes the chore away. I like that they overcome the chores and make them easier. The reversing a trailer bit with the TR knob may prove interesting, I can do very well without and have for 26 years but I'm also willing to give it a go. I don't have to use it. The shape is following the family of LR and something too akin to what it was would have stuck out like a sore thumb. If you look at any other make they'll follow the design of their stablemates.

To answer that, I don't give a damn about it being more modern (though I can understand that this is important to a lot of people). What I do care about is it being at least as good and preferably better.
What we've got is undeniably "modern", but its function has been badly compromised by the need to be modern.
It would be a bit like VW building a new Tranporter van that all the surfing "dudes" love and then acting all surprised when the "reactionary" commercial users get hacked off about it being impossible to load a pallet into it anymore! Simply telling them how modern it is and how dated their old one was would be pretty meaningless.2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

Do you really think it's worse? It has compromise in some areas but improved in others. It's not going to continue as is because only us lot will buy it and that isn't enough. It has to appeal to a wider market and I for one think they've done a pretty good job. I don't need to fill it to the gunwales ever really so a compromise on load capacity by a relatively small margin is acceptable to me. Most people will be the same. If you need bigger where do you go?FFRR 2017 4.4SDV8 Autobiography. Cost so much I must be mad!

The biggest thing that won over D3 haters was when they got in a drove the car, they then realised how their D1 and D2s were. How many on here have driven the D5? DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone

It's the cost that worries me still. The only way I would be able to justify one (outside of my enthusiasm for the Discovery as a whole) is if they do give us the Utility models with high spec here in Ireland. And from talking around that's the view of most Irish based enthusiasts/potential buyers too. 95% of sales here since 1991 have been for Commercial or Utilitiy versions, and if they drop that option sales will fall dramactially. Just because the road tax has dropped to a better level, it's still not at the level of commercial tax yet, and being able to reclaim VAT is extremely important here.
I predict chaos and the loss of several dealerships through poor sales if the local distributor doesn't do the sensible thing and bring in a reasonably high spec Utility version with options.2016 Discovery 4 Commercial

I have my doubts but I'm optimistic and looking forward to trying it, it should be a good drive and will suit what I use it for.23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green

IMHO...
I thought that the brand was split into two; Range Rover & Land Rover. I obviously (wrongly) assumed that the Range Rovers were for the 'er' Range Rover lot and the Land Rover were for peeps that wanted a practical non flashy functional go everywhere vehicle. There's already 3/4 JLR vehicles with same type shape, and now there is another...
What's wrong with keeping something original'ish (Porsche has kept the 911 theme running for the last hundred million years) - so why not the Discovery?
This is more about competing with all the Uber Wagon lot. And I'm sorry, but most of them are so tediously boringly crap to look at now...the new Defender stands no chance.
Yes it will sell in it's zillions and be a sales success, but and maybe JLR should ditch the Land Rover name and just call them all Range Rovers. "Business is business after all" and wouild suit their brand image.Communication is the breakfast of champions...

I love it from what i have seen but I can't really go any smaller boot space wise as I'm pushing it with the D4 as is. D4 is old and I really want it to have more technology and power which this gives but I have to stay practical. I desperately want to keep the permagrin, if the boot doesn't suit then I'm gonna have to go down a Custom T6 route which is really the only place I can see I can go. The D4 stopped me having to do that but the D5 may not looking at it MY06 S - Gone but not forgotten

While not seen the D5 in the flesh yet, based on comments on this forum seems like I'll be keeping my D4 until the next Defender arrives!
I'd like to see the 'virtual' loading of oversized or long items into the boot of the D5. I'm still unsure how you secure the single piece tailgate down when you've got items sticking out. Perhaps they've engineered anchor points into the inside of the tailgate?16 D4 Landmark

I've just seen a great reason for purchasing the new Discovery.... (and it's not in the brochure AFAIK)...
There's an internal tent available....!
Didn't know that until dealer just happened to mention it to me earlier today!
