England 2011 Discovery 4 3.0 TDV6 XS Auto Orkney GreyDiscovery 4

A couple of small points....(think Kate Moss!)

1. The FFD5 wont have the suicide doors - I cant believe anyone thinks they'll really appear. LR said they were on to show journalists the interior properly.

2. My experience with the D4 is that the split tailgate is great for sitting on but not so great when you are loading 500kg of gravel into the back in 30kg bags - in fact any heavy load that cant be pushed into the back is a bit of a nightmare. My back is only so strong. The solution they came up with looks interesting but as someone said - wheres the tow hitch (Im quite sure it WILL be there on the final version - you cant have a Disco without one - think caravans etc), and where is the spare wheel?

While I'm at it - LR said the single tailgate allowed a larger boot opening - Great.
They said it would be a max of one inch longer than the current D4 but be bigger inside - Great.
If anyone thinks the current 'brick on wheels' (which I love btw) will make it through to the D5 has to be living in another era surely. Slick aerodynamics help economy and reduce wind noise - does anyone object to that? Not that I think the concept looked great - there's definitely something wrong.

LR said the next FFD will move upmarket - Autocar said there will be a lower end version of the full size one at say £35k - £50k. I imagine that will be the one most of us here will be after?

Oh, one more thing (aka Apple) - I dont think they'll release the new D5 until they have a new 6 cylinder engine - it could be some time

I'll start saving now.
 MegaSTUPID BREXIT
D4 XS MY12 Orkney Grey - nice!
996 turbo cab - a dream come true
VXR220 - Epic Track Car
D2 - V8 - Agricultural bankruptcy but what fun! - Long gone but missed

....The concept RRS had a weird set of doors...its still on open show in Gaydon.....Personally I dont hunk LR will take the iso with something futuristic & a risk to the model line & mass market sales aimed

OK see your point...whether it will be what we know & use now or a single leaf standard tailgate.....either do it for me....

I cant see how a single door could make the aperture any bigger ?

Whatever the eventual vehicle there is only so much that can be done to alter the cd factor...that is only part of the economy drive....it has to have (I hope the interior dimensions) size..& cant be a TARDIS ?
but...I sense (from what I have heard) that the standard torque converter auto may give way to the ZF / NVG equivalent to the VW/Audi deg system that is being trailed as we speak....ditching the torque converter makes all the difference....the clutches from Valeo W2 organic friction material

...it has to be a range with a high faulting top end with BLING & at the other that bargain basement ..daft as LR are they are not that daft...you have to appreciate the market sector that the Disco has invaded & taken over from the Jap Jeeps

The engine will be shared with XF & the Jag cross over plus maybe the top end XE vehicles...true that could design & make it them selves...but economies of scale emanate from another cooperative venture (Ford, Citroen, Peugeot + I reckon Fiat)

The torque convertor has given way for an electric motor Thumbs Up

Quote:
The system works like this: a 35kW electric motor is packaged within the ZF eight-speed gearbox, sitting between the ratios and the engine itself and taking the place of the torque converter. Meanwhile, the fuel tank is smaller to make way for the lithium-ion battery pack, which powers the electric motor. Back off the throttle and the coasting engine charges the battery. Brake lightly and all the retardation comes from the regenerative braking system, which also feeds charge back to the battery. Brake harder and a blend of brake-pad friction and regenerative braking combines to stop you.

They are looking...

& are indeed - patenting hybrid systems
http://worldwide.espacenet.com/publication...&KC=A1
.....look on espacenet (link above - the patents library & search for Jag Landrover) lots of recents in there...
the link points to a hybrid control system
