If....

This is the New "real" Discovery...it will be a huge disappointment for many existing LR owners who want to renew their D3's & D4's....

It would (to me) frighten off other potential owners too.
To improve on what's there right now is evolution....

Not gimmicks, not quirks....or the concept we have now "sexed" up
To me if existing or potential customers want gimmicks or daft styling / features there is plenty to choose from e.g. Ssang Jonng, anything from P.R.O.C....maybe some German creations......all the French stuff.

If you have the original glossy brochures for the D3 it clearly stated the tasks the vehicle concept had to fulfill....which it did ...... These features are still in the D4.

The "real" Disco is a practical, purposefull, usable multi purpose 4wd masterpiece that even LandRover are going to have to work hard to improve.
The concept doesn't need changing it needs to be maybe modernised benefitting from aluminium architecture, more frugal engines, maybe simplified systems, improved.....
And just to please some it may be even offered with a DIPSTICK.....so you can quickly & readily gauge the engine lubricant level......
 BREXIT - done properly.
Right now ...We need Government - not Politics
Save the Dipstick Flagbearer-keep it simple, less likely to fail campaign-agenda items:Starting Handles, Acetylene Lamps.
Founder: Dipsticks-R-Us Inc
D3 HSE-perfectly formed, passenger friendly...has real DIPSTICK
Jag XK-but sadly no DIPSTICK...HUGE design fault
FL2 has DIPSTICK..."real comfort in rear seats"
VW Golf wondermobile (?)..has real DIPSTICK
Morris Minor..original DIPSTICK technology..and a real KEY.

The clue to the fecklessness of this video is that it states the "2015 Discovery" ...they'd better be quick Rolling Eyes

I remember all the criticism that people made of the D3, especially "enthusiasts " amazing how many ended up buying one, the D5 will be no different.

Sadly I think that is what we are going to end up with and we may have to hope the new Defender is more in keeping with what we are looking for.

What must be disheartening for Land Rover is that they can build a car like the D3/4 and yet still lose out in international sales 5:1 to something ike the X5!

In order not to restrict themselves to purely selling to people who know their ar*e from their elbow; LR are going to have to be more radical and build something that will appeal to the shallow, the easily led and the fashion conscious Laughing It looks like they've done a good job : Whistle

While it might alienate a good proportion of the existing customer base, I'm sure that in terms of market share it will make a much bigger impression than the current car and LR's marketing department will have got it right with this one.

Credit where credit's due, it certainly looks a lot better than that new Volvo SUV/hearse hybrid! Rolling Eyes

That's far from being the case all the time; when the same thing happened on the FL2 forums when the DS came out, I moved here instead!

England 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 S Auto Java BlackDiscovery 3

A couple of weeks ago I was chatting to someone fairly high up in LR and said I hope they don't spoil the new discovery making it look like the discovery sport. He told me that when he saw it in development it still has the split tail gate and the step in the roof although less pronounced as it will have proper adult 3rd row seats and not the childs seats of the RR
 Mods:
DNA Remap
De-Tangoed
Clear indicators
D4 rear lights
Sat Nav with D4 surround
Flip down DVD player
Blackvue
Side steps

Give it time, the DS with a new engine is a better car than the Fl2 (I have one) and is not such a radical change as the D2 to D3. I had an early D3 and had LR owners come up and tell me how ugly it was and how bad it was - a lot of these now own D3 Laughing

Well I do like the look of the vision concept, but I'm very glad we pick up a new D4 on Tuesday and have a few years to go before leaping into a new breed of LR vehicle.
LRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.

I have a DS and it isn't. All the Fl2 really needed was a interior make over, perhaps a slight stretch to the wheelbase and hey presto a proper small Discovery.
