I guess we can call it the Freelander Version 3.5
As practicality or the Discovery heritage has not been at the forefront of their mind I am still trying to work out how they think this is going to be anything but an ugly version of this:

Didn't Gerry McGovern say that there would be a clear design language between the ranges? I can't see it.
What about the commercial? A big seller for LR or are those customers going to have to pin their hopes on the next Defender?23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green

I'm sure it will be much discussed over the coming months but for me I would like it to look like a Discovery and not a variant of the Discovery Sport which looks like an Evoque.

Spare's still underneath so will no doubt keep Uncle Ray in the manner he's become accustomed to.

I'm confused (old man's prerogative), but with Robbies pics is pic2 the concept and pic 3 the D5 test vehicle. If so pic 3 is a little more like the traditional Disco but with a Freelander front. I defo don't like the concept (pic 2). 2007 Disco3 2.7 tdv6 SE

Yep 2 the concept and 3 the d5 cammo'd version. But as Russell says, the more you look at the 2 together the more they look pretty similar.

they're hiding a lot around that back end - looks like bits of distractor bits and pieces under the wrap from the rear door backwards - odds are the front two thirds will be identical to the new snort with some fiddling of plastic on the nose to discovery-ise it - only that bit behind the doors will be different
looks like no clamshell tail unfortunately either Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)

@Robbie: You don't think they think you'll want to take it off-road? It's for the yummy mummies on the school run, biggest hazard would be the kerb.

"You can never have too many yummy mummy mobiles" would be JLR's answer. Requirements of us dinosaurs are fairly well down the pecking order.

Will be keeping my D3 til she dies a dramatic and glorious death. She's paid for and modified to just so, don't know what a new(er) Disco would give me. After she dies it could well be back to "normal" cars.

Look at the other spy shots and even the front bumper has the two huge air intakes on the front edges just like the concept. Nice to see twin exhaust still out the back so potentially a 3.0 engine still available.
Looking at the two caoed vehicles there is slight diffrences so we may well get to see something more to our liking later.
One last thought, what were peoples thoughts when the Discovery was first launched, even the D3 lots and lots of people hated it and now all love it, same could be said for the D4, so my guess is once out and about more and more people will take a liking to it and buy it.MY17 D5 1st Edition Namib Orange
