Back end lower trim of the spy shot D5 looks very close to the Disco Vision vehicle. If you look at the lower tray you can see the same profile. Appears the rear tail lights are slightly taller than the DV.

I've been comparing the spy shots with the concept car from various angles and there is nothing in the disguise of the camo that would indicate anything other than the basic concept car shape with a few cosmetic tweaks Rolling Eyes

The angular lines of where the rear door opens are identical on both Surprised

I haven't got time to go through and digest all these recent posts now.

Do we think split tailgate or one piece? Looks to me very much like the later. Big Cry

Looking at the third Motorauthority image on page 37 of the thread, I can almost convince myself that there's a split above the lights and the centre section is just taped over. But then again... maybe not.

I don't know about photo shop, but would some PS guru not be able to get rid of the camouflage to give us a better view of the lines?

Cheers Del Thumbs Up Time will tell.

I'm not sure what I'll be replacing my current D4 with. Maybe I'll keep it for ages and get something else to munch the motorways miles in. Alternatively, maybe a used FRRR or the new Defender.

Or by then, there could be a competitor from another marque Shocked

Car under spy pictures is very close in the design to the Discovery concept, not really any need of photoshop.

You can't see where the tailgate could split, not likely to be in the middle of the rear lights. So most likely one piece. And also looking at the L405, the lower part of the split tailgate have been minimized to just a short lip all other models have a one piece tail gate. And would the D5 have a split tailgate, the lower part would be short, not at all as tall as up to including the light clusters.

Unfortunately the only way forward to find a worthy successor as I see it the new Defender, but I'm not sure of it either, but I hope for it.

And regarding the discussions at the launch of the Discovery 3, there was NO negative thoughts about that the new car not meeting the quality of the old. Ok there where some talk about leaving the beam axle design and alpine windows gone. But this was marginal compared to what they do now! For me this means that the end of an era is about to start now. The D3 design is iconic, and I hope I can find a nice low mileage specimen to have in my collection.

I don't dislike it, in fact I don't dislike any of the LR products, but things like sloping tailgates which reduce the usability of the cargo space are not what I am looking for, I can get 6 beehives in the D3, I doubt I could in the D5. I have no doubt it will sell in bucket loads just not to me.

As others have said hopefully the new Defender will be the more practical Land Rover in the mould of the D3/4.

Does this help?
Dimensions are pretty much the same as the concept...
