I really am hoping this is a typo in this weeks Auto Express web page

"This week, we have exclusive pictures of how the new Land Rover Defender could look, which shows a more rounded design similar to the Land Rover Discovery Sport."

Looking at those lights that appear to be set back does make me wonder if a flatter front end could be hiding underneath.

Current D4 List goes up to £59k with the Lux and thats before you tick any options and trust me with a few ticks on the options list its soon touching £65k Big Cry my dealer says the HSE Lux are incredibly popular so i wouldn't be surprised if the D5 lineup stretches up to £80k personally and then there is the SVO version to come too.

Those auto express renderings are a mashup of the new Disco Sport, and 2016 Evoque front end. The D5 mule pics posted earlier show vertical fake air intakes on the front bumper spoiler whereas the auto express renderings show something similar to the Disco Sport. I believe the front end of the Discovery Vision is what we'll be getting...

Auto Express....

Ok I had to buy it just to be curios....nothing really new there except some impressions from the camouflaged shots...
But has got me wondering just what....
I started to make my Censored list of features that I have to consider:
Capacity....the load area...this has to be as large & as much like what we have right now...if making it sexier or newer make it smaller load lugging wise it's falls at the first fence...l can go buy loads of smaller 4x4's....even Land Rover ones....the disco a lifestyle vehicle has enabled lots to happen without hiring a van or using a trailer....lets hope it hasn't lost this one important feature.
Off Road credentials....I would have thought that being a Land Rover it would be as good as what we have right now....maybe better in some way.... It has to have the same wading capacity...
Towing capacity...if it's a lighter vehicle does it mean it may have a lower than 3500kg capacity ..... If it is reduced it may badly affect some who depend on the D3/4's towing mega capability.
Multi function Vehicle....the five seat function is there OK....lots don't use the 6th & 7th seats....I have in my D3 & they are functional over long distances....ok you have no luggage space but you can carry 7 adults....the disco sports 6th & 7th seats area joke....lets hope the fifth generation or Mk V has this sorted.
Performance....to me on my 2.7 diesel is adequate....you have enough there for relaxed motorway cruising & the ability to overtake without laundry problems....the V6 petrol may be an alternative to "you can only have diesel or a V8"..... At least J/LR are good at engines without having to buy in..
Economy....has to be better by a lot...getting in to the mid 30's would be a revelation & it is possible.
Features....we all are different so needs & wants come in to play...
My list:
Rear climate control.....the one reason I didn't migrate to a D4..... It has to have this as an OEM extra or standard on higher spec models.
Fridge....very very useful on long journeys not essential but well worth having better than some makes having a glove box with an AC vent in it.
Half decent infotainment system with though in the update system (like the VW/Audi....FOC system)...it ain't rocket science.....however the sound quality of my 9 year old D3 takes some beating...
Suspension System....lets hope it's a newer version of the same magic carpet
Knobs or levers...to me the adoption of the Jag gear knob is a huge error....it isn't intuitive, gimmicky & has the potential to cause costly & dangerous mistakes....The knobs a fad or a gimmick at best...you swap from a gear shift lever to a knob when there are advantages.....& to me there aren't any
Head up displays...if these aid safety OK
Smart Phone control....really, get a grip....maybe as a demo in the pub car park.....but are they really serious ?....do customers existing or to be attracted from elsewhere really need or even want this ? will the complexity & the potential to break down taking other functions with warrant its inclusion ? will it inflate the prices on specific models beyond reason ?
I can see it now some horrible accident where some person runs themselves over...(sorry Russell's Son) Big daft gimmick.....nearly as daft as those who think they need it.
Will it have a half decent Jack?
Wil it have the same towing stability system that protects you from being pushed by a large towed load ? Lets hope so...
Will it have a clock that can actually be read ?
Will it have gearboxes that self destruct at far less miles than they ought to or sensible service intervals that preserve the kit ?
Will it have brakes that don't have be substantially rebuilt every second service ?..... Brakes are a pre requisite of any vehicle that shouldn't have to be beefed up or swapped out as regularly as of now.
Will it have a fullsize spare wheel ? Even as an accessory...
Split Tail Gate.... I welcomed the split tail gate on my D3.... Very useful & functional especially when loading heavy, awkward loads, brilliant to sit in when donning boots brilliant to stand on to reach the roof....blame marketing for its demise...they obviously haven't asked owners......(those who don't lie it ....you have the option to buy something else)...if it where an accessory I would opt to have one.
Maybe I now have to go FFRR....the purchase price cost difference isn't that much of a difference anymore..
But overall the Land Rover brand has sold & attracted customers on honest capability, features that actually work, value for money even in the face of reliability issues that have now been largely overcome.
It isnt about bling, Chelsea tractoring even to some extent how it looks.....to me the Disco 3/4 still looks very good & most of all value for money.
 BREXIT - done properly.
Right now ...We need Government - not Politics
Save the Dipstick Flagbearer-keep it simple, less likely to fail campaign-agenda items:Starting Handles, Acetylene Lamps.
Founder: Dipsticks-R-Us Inc
D3 HSE-perfectly formed, passenger friendly...has real DIPSTICK
Jag XK-but sadly no DIPSTICK...HUGE design fault
FL2 has DIPSTICK..."real comfort in rear seats"
VW Golf wondermobile (?)..has real DIPSTICK
Morris Minor..original DIPSTICK technology..and a real KEY.

Couldn't be bothered reading all that

Think along the same lines as RRS2. It's based on the same floor pan, same power train, same suspension etc, but a bit more family orientated

I really enjoyed driving the RRS mk2 at LRE last year. I hope they update the in car technology. I feel JLR have fallen behind recently.
