There is no way they will produce a vehicle narrow enough to be able to tackle the kind of lanes you can get a defender down imho. Shame as with modern materials you'd have thought they could make it safe, spacious and still slight enough to fit in the defender dimensions.MY15 DIY Black Pack (Better than factory and half the price!)

When I organise a lane trip I always send the fatboys down first -> Disco3/4s, this way they clear the branches and widen the tracks so there is plenty of room Defners In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

I realise that the
Luxury sector is FFRR, RRS & Evoke...... Understandable specification & the co£t
Lifestyle sector is Disco & Disco Sport.....more down to earth price wise & less appointments wise
Is the Defender in the Utility sector ..... Is there a Utility sector ?.....hose down able industrial grade that can be adapted for special purposes, military etc
.....are we expecting the replacement to be less utilitarian, nearer to the existing D3/4 as the replacement is moving to the Luxury sector appointments & cost wise ?
To me the model & cost price differentiation is cocked up.....ok LR are trying to get more sold, more customers etc but surely yo do this by having a model range that is a hierarchy not all in the same league price wise. as it was a while back.
Either by sector or by the models in there:
Commercial.....basically a van one row of seats....only basic engine options
S version very basic .... Five seat version...maybe an engine upgrade choice
SE as above some concessions to creature comforts & seven seats ... full range if engines
HSE the full monty.... all the bells & whistles....only the higher spec engines
Luxury....enhanced leather....blingety bling bling ...... only posers would go this far with a low spec engine
One glint of common sense is the F-Pace which is maxed at £55k with the top of the heap launch model...BREXIT - done properly.

D3 HSE-perfectly formed, passenger friendly...has real DIPSTICK
Jag XK-but sadly no DIPSTICK...HUGE design fault
FL2 has DIPSTICK..."real comfort in rear seats"
VW Golf wondermobile (?)..has real DIPSTICK
Morris Minor..original DIPSTICK technology..and a real KEY.

I priced up an F Pace at over £60k and the blue first edition model shown in all the launch pictures is £65k 2022MY Defender 110 D250 HSE X Dynamic, Gondwana with options!

I won't need to worry about the D5 for a long time, because it will be way out of my price league. The next Defender will do me. An entry level model will be fine add the bits I need rather than the bits LR say I need.
After having the DS HSE (first time at that I've went that high) I'm enjoying being back in a car that isn't tech heavy, it has all the stuff I need and none of the stuff I don't.23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green

Agree on that CC 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

One thing I think is nice about LR, is that previously, they offered you 90% of the functional vehicle from the start. Take the D3 - Aside frome the base 5 seater, they all have 7 seats, they all have air suspension, they all have terrain response, they all have the same engines. I find that a very civilised and friendly way of selling a vehicle. It says "this is what we're proud of, this is our offering, add what you want; we're not forcing you". The D4 is, moreorless, still done that way, albeit a proper low spec offering doesn't really exist any more, but I can see that disappearing now. ^^^^ agreed - I drove out of the local LR dealer in 2006 with my S spec D3 for £32K and no way did I feel a pauper - it had all the mandatory toys bar the sat nav as far as I was concerned
£48K for the same feeling with a D4 doesn't sit comfortably with me any more, and we all know which way the D5 price is going to head... Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)

There is an article in this month's Car Magazine. Confirms single piece tailgate with slide out ledge thing, fully electric seats in rows 2 & 3 and twin turbo four pot diesel. Launch in autumn 16.
Elsewhere it mentions the JLR inline six cylinder engines coming in autumn 17. DS here we go again.....late engines.2014MY Discovery

I think two power options will be available through time. They done it with the D4, early models had the option of the 2.7 TDV6 which sat along side the 3.0 TDV6 and didn't it sit along side the SDV6 for a while? can't remember.23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green

The Defender replacement would suit me as long as it had air suspension.
