Would be a necessity if it is to serve the purpose of the D3/4; it would be impossible to get the wide suitability with a fixed ride height. If the D5 is to be more road biased then a coil-only Defender would leave a large gap in the market one way or another. ^^^^ agreed - I drove out of the local LR dealer in 2006 with my S spec D3 for £32K and no way did I feel a pauper - it had all the mandatory toys bar the sat nav as far as I was concerned
£48K for the same feeling with a D4 doesn't sit comfortably with me any more, and we all know which way the D5 price is going to head...
Couldn't agree more, I bought a new D3 in late '06 in base 7 seat spec but with leather and 19" rims, for a shade over £26k (which ok was a damn good deal). It felt like a lot of car for the money but not obscenely expensive.
I've only just got into a D4 now and a used one, no way could I afford to go new. The D5 will, for sure be totally out of my league, as even a well specced D Sport is, they really do need to offer something lower end as not everyone wants or needs all the luxury as nice as it is. As it stands they have ditched the lower end of the market, even used there is not a lot around the dealer forecourts under £25k other than low spec FL2's as they now have the under 5 year old rule on approved used.
The Defender market wasn't huge admittedly but the Defender and lower spec D3 market combined must have been a big chunk of buyers that they have currently no suitable offering for.

Elsewhere it mentions the JLR inline six cylinder engines coming in autumn 17. DS here we go again.....late engines.
A £50k++ vehicle with a 4 pot engine. What a bad idea. The SDV6 is barely up to the job.____

£50k +++ is nothing extraordinary for any motor in the sector nowadays though 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Really? The SDV6 is more than adequate, IMHO
The 2.7 was barely up to the job, but the twin turbo setup has rectified this My D3 Build Thread

Trouble is that Joe public won't see it that way; he just sees it as "the latest, highly efficient, eco friendly diesel engine" because that's what he's told. Of course, bring out the 6-pot and the dealer cuckoos all change their tune...
Some will see sense though no doubt, and assuming a better offering is indeed made available in the future, I can see the residuals plummeting.Current: Discovery 3 06MY (55 reg) HSE Auto Zambezi Silver Allisport Fast Road Intercooler, V8 Brakes, Silicone IC Hoses, EGRs Blanked, Remapped, De-Cat pipe, FBHIC

I do hope LR are looking at giving us alternative options to diesel. The way things are going politically, I think I'm already driving my last diesel vehicle!

I'll not buy a Disco with a 4 pot. EVER.
There, I've said it. Make a note and ask me again in three years
I've toyed with the idea of when time to change moving to a supercharged/SVR RRS (VERY secondhand though as they are crazy new!!)
Beadles have an SVR demo at present that I've been invited to take for a test drive... MY15 DIY Black Pack (Better than factory and half the price!)

Dubbs... Take that Test Drive, they are near on impossible to get hold of. I searched high and low for one not long ago and no where had one. I rang a few dealerships around London and no one had one!!
Even JRL them selfs said they wouldn't be sending them to dealers as demos due to the demand for them 2009 Discovery 3 HSE - Gone

i had a chat with LR guys and they claim new D5 might be also coming out with the same V6 petrol supercharged as in F-Pace
if so might give up clunky diesel for 340BHP in petrol head version

Petrol supercharged would be nice 8) ...I'm disappointed that LR are indicating hybrid technology is still a way off though 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021
