How far do these things go as "electric only" though? If it's not far, it makes naff all difference if it's pluggable or not, and more batteries just means more weight, less space.

Full electric vehicles may serve a purpose, but hybrids are pointless IMO. Rolling Eyes

Hybrids take away the fear of being caught short on a journey but should still deliver the benefits of a high MPG.

I'd have all electric if LR could Tesla'fy a vehicle ...the range is impressive and charge time short. Smile

I very nearly bought a Tesla recently... in the end I found the reduction in 'real world' range was drastically reduced by my driving style... i.e. did you know it drops if it's windy or the roads are wet? More drag = significantly lower range. I'm often doing motorway miles at unsociable hours, so it's easy to keep to the national speed limits Whistle this also reduces your expected range. When I added in the extra weight I carry with work tools, it became a none starter for my day to day commute!

However, the vehicle is very impressive and they are getting close to usable... just not quite there for me yet, especially at £70k+ Thumbs Up

I'd look at a hybrid, all electric would be completely useless for me with long hauls.

The hybrid part is useful if it harvests braking energy. That is energy that is otherwise wasted as heat. When braking we just waste the energy used to accelerate the vehicle. Capturing some of that energy and using the next time you want to accelerate is a great idea as it saves fuel. Of course, if the vehicle spends most of its time on the motorway then the benefit is mostly lost. That's why Prius and the lie don't do that well in comparison to efficient ICE cars on the motorway. In stop-start traffic the benefit is very real.

I'd love a system to reuse the energy I waste when slowing my 2.5 tonne lump. It would improve my effective mpg from the low 20s it currently is... Whistle

I would quite like a range extender BMW i3 though. It feels like the next step and makes the Pruis et al feel very old.

The FFRR only does a mile or so on electric only.

Causes dealership load of issues as well. Special exclusion area has to be set up for when these cars are worked on, every member of staff has to do a training programme for them to be an authorised dealer for them, this includes secreterial staff, cleaners etc. Talking to local dealer is goign to be a real pain in the backside and not sure as to what real benefit so far.

In my humble opinion LR have lost the plot entirely....they have a brilliant range of vehicles.....but these are all higher priced vehicles....there is little differentiation in price with a range to suit all pockets...

Jaguar on the other hand have the XE that starts low...

The DS should have been the bargsin basement Land Rover....it isn't

Hydrogen generator plus four in wheel motors with intelligent four wheel drive would be awesome much better and wey more efficient then electric will ever be
unless the batteries designed in Cambridge will come out as consumer product with 500 more capacity then normal batteries as they are on very good way to be produced soon

for now I would not mind having V6 supercharged Thumbs Up

If there is no Hybrid option day one i'd go for a supercharged petrol version.

Personally I'm hoping Landrover develop something a bit different with the Hybrid in the future and not just follow everyone else. Use it for new modes of terrain response, HDC, low/zero emission green laning mode Laughing as well as having usual modes to boost performance and boost economy. With that kind of electric motor they could run a prop off it to drive winches and all sorts.

Would it be fair to say that they might be working towards a, BMW like, policy of two or three basic designs and then offering them in three, or possibly four, different sizes? For instance, think of 1, 3, 5 and (with a leap of faith), even the 7 Series and see what I mean; a complete loss of model identity is usually not the barrier to sales that you'd reasonably expect Rolling Eyes

My question is why would someone buy an RRS (non supercharged) over a D5 when the D5 will have more (supposedly) technology and more capability? The D5 will share the same platform as the RRS and be similarly shaped but with a taller back end. If they are priced the same I don't understand why someone would opt for an RRS unless they just want the badge.

By doing away with the third row of seats and by compromising on boot space, the Range Rovers do tend to have much more spacious and comfortable seats for a reduced number of passengers, especially in row two.
