By doing away with the third row of seats and by compromising on boot space, the Range Rovers do tend to have much more spacious and comfortable seats for a reduced number of passengers, especially in row two.
funny you say that, I have spent hours in RRS at dealers waiting for my Disco and second row of seats aint any more comfy that D44s seats especially middle one with that hump wtf is that for ???
RRS feels cocooned comparing to D4 and it is really kind of spacious for people at less than 6ft of height

A little off topic: What other model ( if any ) in the LR line-up have variable height? It's one of several reasons why I have the Disco. I need the "kneeling" attitude to embark an aged and disabled passenger. Never take life too seriously. Nobody gets out alive anyway.

How far do these things go as "electric only" though? If it's not far, it makes naff all difference if it's pluggable or not, and more batteries just means more weight, less space.
Full electric vehicles may serve a purpose, but hybrids are pointless IMO.
The hybrid part is useful if it harvests braking energy. That is energy that is otherwise wasted as heat. When braking we just waste the energy used to accelerate the vehicle. Capturing some of that energy and using the next time you want to accelerate is a great idea as it saves fuel. Of course, if the vehicle spends most of its time on the motorway then the benefit is mostly lost. That's why Prius and the lie don't do that well in comparison to efficient ICE cars on the motorway. In stop-start traffic the benefit is very real.
The concept is fair enough, but I don't believe the system works efficiently enough in practice, not by the time you add the extra weight etc., and consider the environmental issues of producing the batteries. As you say, at high speeds, there's little braking needed, but the efficiency of regenerative braking also trails of at low speed. By the time you've added the power balance, there are plenty of inefficiencies creeping in. Hydrogen generator plus four in wheel motors with intelligent four wheel drive would be awesome much better and wey more efficient then electric will ever be
unless the batteries designed in Cambridge will come out as consumer product with 500 more capacity then normal batteries as they are on very good way to be produced soon
for now I would not mind having V6 supercharged
In-wheel motors would make for a terrible ride and poor handling under braking etc. - way too much unsprung weight. A conventional drivetrain with (locking) diffs makes for better off-road ability too, as more power can be distributed to each wheel when needed. An electric drivetrain works for lower speed travel, but I'd want an IVT (hydrostatic, probably) for longer and faster travel - preferably coupled to a hydrogen gas turbine. I'm eager about the Disco 5, but I'm going to have to say that I'm going to jump over to the Defender side. Which forum is the Defender counterpart again?

I stumbled onto a picture of a 2018 RRS testing a new front lower bumper and low and behold LR has adopted the same vertical fake air intakes that were on the Discovery Vision AND the D5 testing mules. I find this interesting in that the FFRR and Evoque maintain horizontal fake vents but the 2018 RRS apparently will have a lower front bumper more similar to the new D5. Perhaps that's where LR will take the design of the refreshed FFRR? Not only will the RRS and D5 share the same frame and relative proportions (not including taller cabin at back) but it appears the front design will be similar as well (not including headlights and grill) This design also isn't consistent with the new DS which has horizontal fog lights in the vent like the current RRS and Evoque...

Wade sensing, progress control and HUD are all on the RRS on which the D5 will be based (presumably). The bike sense thing is just an adaptation of the blind spot system already available. Transparent bonnet would be very useful if they get it to work in the real world- useful on road as well as off road.Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

Just checked this thread. Very interesting.
Of course the wade sensing on current cars is (or appears to me) to be basically useless. If I want to see how high the water is under my wing mirrors I open the window and look out!
The wade sensing in the link was talking about REAL sensing. I.e. what your front wheel is about to drop into - I imagine if you're in 3ft of muddy water that might actually be useful!
Of course none of this is going to be cheap....MegaSTUPID BREXIT

A CAR reader (thanks Basjan Klopper!) has emailed us the following pictures of a Land Rover test mule. The pictures were taken in a parking garage and after several members of the CAR team gathered around one of our computers, it was decided that this could be the new 2016 Land Rover Discovery.
Undress the car, and the lines clearly signal that of the new SUV. However, the awkward placing and design of the rear quarter did make us think for a moment that Land Rover could have something up its sleeve.
Expect the new Disovery to be unveiled later this year, while local introduction could be as early as the end of the year.

Since the side vents are covered / sealed by the graphic wrap I assume they are cosmetic and not real?16 D4 Landmark
