It's a machine that can be easily repaired .... I drove less than 50 yards when I picked mine up ...and had a suspension fault ..dropped to the bump stops ...back in a loaner and it was swiftly sorted and no problems since. It's easy to say reject but if it's a factory order then you will have to wait.

Mind over matter tbh Wink

I'm with Gareth on this one .. if you reject , then you are only entitled to a full refund....they have no obligation to provide a replacement car, and you will take your chances with a re-order

If you go for the repair ( they are specifying a new gearbox, so not as if they are making good your old one) you are probably in a much stronger position to negotiate some suitable compensation for your trouble Whistle
 Cheers Ian

Please don't get me wrong on this.
The dealer has been fantastic, Land Rover very accommodating and to be honest I can't think of any other brand of vehicle that I would entertain buying.
It's just that feeling of a new car that I was so looking forward to. The smile on my face for that first mile was immense Very Happy
My first reaction on the phone was reject but the more I think about it the more I just want my Disco.
I'm sure that having it fixed they will take more care etc to make sure it is perfect.

They'll fix it, just ask for a written guarantee that all the work has been carried out to a standard satisfactory to LR UK and that the vehicle is free from defects.

If you kick up enough I'm sure 3 years free servicing will be included as well and they may even extend the warranty if they are in charge of the servicing?

That's what I'm thinking Scarab!

My only fear is that I'm getting a Friday afternoon vehicle that's full of issues.

A sensible conversation in the morning with the dealer is what is needed I think.

As I say dealer gas been great so far!

It's a ZF box from Germany ...there will always be the 0.000whatever% which has a problem ...doesn't mean the rest of the motor will have issues ...Robots don't know it's Friday Wink

I disagree, respectfully. I may be wrong. I also concede that my view may be a minority view rather than majority. We clearly have different experiences and I should defer to yours with the discovery.

Secondly yes it was a pile of parts, but individual parts joined together once, will never join together as well a second time

Its easy to think this way but I find my engine rebuilds and repairs on large generators are as good if not better than new.

Someone with skill and experience will reassemble it better than someone on a production line under pressure.

Cars are very complex now the disco more than most and things like this will happen from time to time. The other thing to remember is demand is out stripping supply.

As long as its getting a new gearbox I would accept, you've waited long enough and just because one assembly has a problem doesn't mean any others will.

All it is, is nuts and bolts. Anything that comes out, goes back in, same as it did from the factory.

So in that respect, it will be in exactly the same condition it left the factory in...

If the dealer had driven it and it failed during a PDI drive, they would have replaced the gearbox and you would not know.

I would get it fixed and LR will probably make a gesture of good will. The car is made up of components made by all sorts of manufacturers, so it's unlikely to be a result of a Friday car.

I would be really annoyed, but I would keep the car. I once rejected a car as it needed a complete wiring loom, but that was going to take weeks to fix as everything to be stripped out to replace the loom. To be fair the garage also agreed rejecting was the fastest option to get back in the road. The faulty one was still at the garage when I took the new one in for it's first service Shocked

I know exactly how you are feeling !

I picked up an 08 90 Puma XS brand new on the 1st of March and I got a mile down the road.

I dint see it again for nearly 3 months, in the end I had to part with it as everything that could have gone wrong went wrong

I can see why you'd be fed up - but it sounds like everything that could have gone wrong, went wrong and was then fixed - and then, after all that hassle you got rid of it.

I see this a lot - people spend a fortune fixing a car - then sell it for a pittance because 'it let them down' - but, the thing that let them down has been replaced with a brand new thing. so it won't let them down again!

Either flog a motor before it becomes a money pit - but never spend on fixing everything before selling for thruppence.

Back to the OP's point though - I wouldn't reject it - LR have agreed there is a faulty component and are going to replace it. Problem sorted - a bit of a hassle, but these things happen - and if he rejects and orders another one, who's to say there won't be a problem with that one?

Cars are complex beasts - made from many thousands of parts - each one supplied by the lowest bidder.
