@beanie
I think there some oddball issues with 036, mine picked up in the bore one day, stripped it fitted a new piston bore cleaned fine. Started first time, ran fine for a few minutes and seized again!
Done some reading the web and there was quite a bit of talk about 036 seizures.
I replaced all the pipes, fuel line,inlet pipe,impulse tube and fitted a new piston. Checked the compression all good.Cleaned the carb. Started first time. I set it up with a tacho and got the correct speed/tune. Did quite a bit of work with it over few days and it ran perfect. Used last week and it cut out and never ran again, I could feel there was little compression. Think I'm going to have to do the crank seals next as something must causing the lean running.
The cylinders have a Nikasil coating which very tough and any piston residue can be cleaned out even with abrasives. Some good videos on youtube
Meteor pistons/cylinders have the Nikasil and are probably the cheapest none genuine option for a decent one.
I always measure/mix my fuel very carefully but this is the first Stihl that I've ever had any issues with. Fortunately I was given it
So in short if yours is seized/worn be aware they me something else causing it. I'm hoping to get mine sorted as when it's running it good powerful sawIID PRO

Thanks, dry crank seals caused the issue, so I know it needs them and a piston, didn't realise the cylinder was potentially ok though Altox GSM FBH controller thread

I clean / deglaze nikasil bores with scotchbrite pads. With so little sulfur in modern petrol the nikasil has an easy time these days.
Always happy to overhaul a good saw.

Theres a guy on youtube who rebuilds for a living, he has a piece of rod that he turned down to fit a die grinder. He cut a slit in the end so some emery paper or abrasive fits in the end. He uses that to clean the bore even when it has aluminium transfer from the piston. I tried it and it worked fine.

I see he has as much red scotchbrite on his bench as I do on mine.
I like to finish with the grey stuff though. I also have some aluminium wheel cleaner from a detailing company - works wonders undiluted when you need to clean aluminium off 2s ports.

With everyone away for an il devo concert in Bournemouth this weekend, I managed a relaxed afternoon fitting some new rapid racking to my man cave.
I went for the budget stuff which is acceptable for the money but super sturdy after I screwed it back to the wall.
On a down side it's harder to hide my saws, I'm afraid I might soon have my shopping privalages removed.
Narpy Grill, tinted windows, Smooth leather wheel (TLO Group buy), ACM fitted (thanks TLO), Rear door loom and Row 2 & 3 audio switch upgrade, RRS 20" wheel change, 285 Cooper LTZ's Sat Nav Mod (until I get a Faultmate upgrade), Front & Rear lamp guards. 4x4 screen now switched on - Woody32, Follow me home reverse lights - woody32, Auto release EPB - Woody32. Off Road Navigation - Woody32. Remap + EGR's switched off. Full chassis clean and Waxoyl.

Before you do the tree, you've left a mess on the bench there.
