Very similar to the one I saw at Gaydon last year minus the suicide doors.Displaced Yorkshireman.

A car that looks like a Range Rover, that's cheaper than a Range Rover, seats more than a Range Rover and more practical than a Range Rover. Not good.
It's all going downhill and LR have lost the plot, can't build them quick enough, long waiting lists for new models. What kind of business wants that?
The current Disco is great but in 2016 it still only has a 4 star crash test rating, poor pedestrian safety, high emissions, low fuel economy and is far too heavy. Lighter and more aerodynamic are way forward for all manufacturers not just LR.23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green

True... I wonder how much lighter that massive tailgate (plus recreational seat) is than a split tailgate design?2005 D3 HSE 2011 D4 Landmark 2016 D4 HSE Lux

Assuming recreational seating is standard of course but I wouldn't have thought the tailgate would be that heavy.23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green

Interesting way of putting the argument. Although, if every car they build looks like a Range Rover, it detracts from the attraction of owning a Range Rover.
On the positive side, I suppose building a range of cars that all look the same has never done BMW any harm at all 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

Bet in five years time we are all happy with our new D5s, after all there does not look a lot out there to compare it to, XC90 may be but with only a 2.0 engine for those who tow a lot, then may be notMY17 D5 1st Edition Namib Orange

There will be a D5 web site with happy people in it at some stage, it's just a shame that so many ex D4 people won't be amongst them.
I bust the budget to get the D4, a car I'd wanted for the previous 4 years. While I'm sure the D5 will be "very nice", in a Disco Sport / Evoque / RRS kind of way, there's nothing about any of them that would match the ability of the D4 to part be with stratospherically large piles of cash! 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

Very true... which is why we'll inevitably compare it to the D4 !!!
The issue is, that in five years I won't have the choice of a new D4. I'm not saying things shouldn't move on and change - and to be honest the D4 is looking a bit dated and tired now - It's just sad that there doesn't seem to be anything from LR that'll stir the spirits when I need to change. Which is what I think we were all hoping for. (and a split tailgate) 2005 D3 HSE 2011 D4 Landmark 2016 D4 HSE Lux

Probably a bad example.
The Range Rover is my ultimate car, so if I can have some of the RR looks with practicalities of the Disco then it should suit me, I would even look at the 2.0ltr if the price isn't ridiculous, it would cover most of my needs. But it I enjoy driving so it has to feel right, I've learned to listen to my gut instincts after the rather costly DS error, the current car ain't no sports car but it's got that feel to it, it's silky smooth.23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green

There isn't a car on the road, maybe except a Range Rover, I wouldn't rather be in in a crash
I would agree that the prices are getting out of controlMike

You know that crash test ratings include potential risk to pedestrians too? So you might find the 4 star rating has more to do with damage to others rather than your own safety! (which obviously we're all concerned about as well)
