According to TV 5 stars is worthless if you are hit by a car with a higher chassis line than yours?
Rather be in a higher hight 4 star than a low 5 star then!Series 1 V8

You know that crash test ratings include potential risk to pedestrians too? So you might find the 4 star rating has more to do with damage to others rather than your own safety! (which obviously we're all concerned about as well)
Even though I won't be getting a D5 - I care not one jot about pedestrian ratings - if perdestrians are stupid enough to jaywalk in front of a great big 4x4 then they will get whats coming to them Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)

New cars have to meet standards for pedestrian safety, which has an influence on the design of the car, I never said the Disco was unsafe.23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green

Got to say I love the look of the D5 and will want one!
The only limiting factor will be price as I think the new X5 looks good too and is likely to be better value. My local dealer believes D5 will going to start about £50k and will be £60 plus for a good one.
But guess as most people in the UK buy on lease now they will still fly out the showroom.Club Narpy Torch

My cousin was a policeman, on duty and in uniform and was still run over on a crossing, so pedestrian safety is important (even if I think the thing on the DS bonnet is awful and will fade badly).
I would also like to think if I was unlucky enough to run someone over the less harm that comes to them might keep me out of prison if I was at fault.Andy

On the subject of pedestrian hits, I sail with 3 German engineers who work for Mercedes they have been doing lots of design work on mitigating Pedestrian hits.
As a result they have designed the bonnets on the new Mercedes so that they rise towards the head if the car hits a pedestrian, apparently this cuts down serious head injury massively.
Other manufacturers will follow as the this get out there.Club Narpy Torch

D5 sitting access height and D4 in normal height doesn't help. Dimensions look ok though.23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green

The roofline that drops to the rear like a RRS also makes it look smaller.2005 D3 HSE 2011 D4 Landmark 2016 D4 HSE Lux

I'm pretty sure I was reading about the Nissan GTR having this system where the bonnet pops up to 'meet' the pedestrian. I'm pretty sure it is also a mega expensive system to replace if unfortunately it is triggered Cheers Ian

Could someone knock on his or her door and ask to take it for a drive and then report back?!
