It won't be, but LR are chasing a much larger and less demanding market.
In a world where the best selling mid sized cars in the UK are the 3 Series and the C Class, vehicle choices are often irrational and flawed. I suspect that, while the D5 may be deeply flawed to many of us who currently buy the D4 (in my case, because it's a civilised & spacious take on the Defender theme), it'll be a stylish car that will have huge, instant and profitable appeal to the large number of people that think that an X5, or an XC90, are good ideas 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

And if it wasn't for those that think the X5 and XC90 were a good idea then LR would've been in big financial trouble.23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green

I do believe though, that the D4 and D5 could sit side by side in the showroom and both sell.
I'm open minded, I will give it a good look over and if I don't like what I see then I'm more than happy to keep my current one.23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green

I couldn't agree more that the D4 and D5 could both sell well alongside each other, in just the same way that a reduced range of FL2's could have hung on when the DS arrived. Unfortunately, with production having recently ceased, it's not going to happen.2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

The D4 and D5 might very well be sold along side one another but the former perhaps not in D4 form.
This is what Supacat does with the present Discovery "rolling chassis and automotive systems" (as they put it):

What Supacat can do, I'm sure Land Rover can do for the new Defender. Whether Land Rover thinks it wise to adopt a design that means increased fuel consumption to lug a T5 chassis around (that old saw), I'm not so sure.

not sure SWMBO would approve of the 50 cal & Gimpy.
Fixed side steps....
But plenty of loadspace....BREXIT - done properly.
Right now ...We need Government - not Politics
Save the Dipstick Flagbearer-keep it simple, less likely to fail campaign-agenda items:Starting Handles, Acetylene Lamps.

D3 HSE-perfectly formed, passenger friendly...has real DIPSTICK
Jag XK-but sadly no DIPSTICK...HUGE design fault
FL2 has DIPSTICK..."real comfort in rear seats"
VW Golf wondermobile (?)..has real DIPSTICK
Morris Minor..original DIPSTICK technology..and a real KEY.
