Don't really see the need for discussion, if it ain't right it ain't right. No amount of discussion will change it

Why wouldn't people want to discuss the new Discovery on a Discovery forum? Many folks are upset that the brand has not only been damaged, but there's no obvious upgrade path for those that want a vehicle as practical as their present model.2005 D3 HSE 2011 D4 Landmark 2016 D4 HSE Lux

Comment was directed at RDR, if it's not right for him there is no point trying to convince himself or letting the wife take charge and compromise on what he has now.

If you want a D4 you better hurry. I know one dealer did their D5 show and tell and took a lot of pre-orders. They also cleared almost all of their D4 used stock.
Or I guess wait until the D5's are being delivered and there will presumably plenty of D4 trade in's from the Chelsea brigade.Tony

I've been told my D4 will command strong money, it also helps that my salesman has a buyer for it but I'm wavering a bit, I like it but I'm not overwhelmed by it and it did look smaller than I was expecting. Should get a chance to drive it in January and have a better look at it.23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green

No offence intended
No offence taken, we all have different uses for our D3/4 my post was just trying to convey the massive difference in the capability for the primary use of our D4 (space & ice cream eating bench) I won't be harping on about how the new design is much worse than the D4 relative to my needs, myself and SWMBO vented enough at LR yesterday.
To be clear though, its not a total write-off yet I just need to re think things a bit. I liked it as a car but its clear its no longer a one stop shop for us so our second car choice could be more important. I need to see what the cost to swap is for a first edition is and then look at what our B car should be as a support car. It could be we keep the D4 as the support vehicle, get a Van or do something completely different.
I am looking at other cars a lot more seriously now, I like the V90 Twin Engine, the interior is great, the seats are more flexible than the D4 and the boots the same if not better than the D5.

I absolutely love the idea of an "ice cream eating bench" thank you so much for suggesting.

If you're in the position to, I would keep the D4 also.
I'm questioning if it's worth paying a premium over the XC90.23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green

I looked at the XC90 also, and whilst not a Disco seems a better choice at this stage than the D5.
I also checked out the Merc GLS which was sumptuous and is definately larger enough to take all my crap, dogs, people but I'm not sure what it's like off-road and not sure of its character onroad. It's pretty expensive, but is luxury on wheels.
Perhaps keeping my D4 is becoming a more attractive option more and more. Yes the D5 looked nice, but has some serious flaws, design choices that derides it being a Discovery.

Well it was the big launch this evening at Guy Salmon in Stockport- and I'm stuck in Portsmouth!
So sent swmbo and fil. They report back that's it's very nice inside, Wendy loved the electric tailgate and thingumagig. I asked her if she was able to sit on it and test its load capacity, she said no, but the salesman was sat on it and bumped around demonstrating its ruggedness.
I think she likes it. Test drive in Feb.

I had totally dismissed the Volvo as a replacement but was comparing to the D4. Comparing to the D5 its looking like serious competition especially the hybrid version. The technology and Scandinavian interior does it for me and the seating flexibility.
Lots of little things I noticed as well for example I saw the load barrier today with cargo divider, its miles better design and quality than the LR one and a 3rd less in price. They actually hinted it could be thrown in to twist my arm without me even asking, I can't see my LR dealer offering the same knowing full well I'm looking at £1k+ in accessories matts, barrier, divider, roof bars to swap.
Wouldn't it be nice LR recognised loyalty and offered an upgrade program for all the accessories against D5 equivilent, you don't realise how much it adds up until you have to buy everything new MY06 S - Gone but not forgotten

I can see why the XC90 would be serious competition for the D5 and why it's back in the running, but would you part with a year old D4 for one?2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2
2015 - 2017: 2 x D4
