At least Landrover have improved the electrics in the D5.

Heslop explains that the fording maximum is set at 900mm "because after that it floats". Land Rover has a test where the vehicle is put into a water tank at up to 30 per cent greater depth than it claims, all the doors are opened and the vehicle left for an hour, before the poor test engineer has to wade back in and check the vehicle will restart and crawl its way out of the flood.

Nice pics
According to my tape measure I can have my dogs cage & still use the 6th seat in back which I'm unable to now.
Will confirm after purchase, but pretty sure.

I haven't waded through all 22 pages, so apologies if this has already been raised, but what's the difference between a D5 and a Discovery Sport? They're looking very similar...

Chassis, engines, equipment, trim

DS is basically FL2 replacement, D5 is (obviously) D4 replacement Thumbs Up

Shocking stuff!

Alex Heslop appears to take us for fools and Andrew English could have been more smarmy or star struck if he'd tried Shocked

The biggest difference is in the way that they are built; the DS is based on the FL2 platform and is made from sheet steel, while the D5 is based on the aluminium architecture of the full sized range Rovers.

The DS uses a transverse engine, a 2.0 diesel, conventional steel springs and part time four wheel drive, while the D5 has a longitudinally mounted, 2.0 and 3.0 diesel and (for the UK at least) air suspension.

Land Rover's marketing would suggest that the DS superceeds the old FL2, while the D5 was intended to replace the D4.

Despite radically different underpinnings, they look very similar to one another and if they aren't parked next to each other (there is difference in size), the most distinctive differences are that the D5 has an offset rear number plate and a slightly squarer edge to the top of the windscreen.

He says the new Disco is uncontroversial Confused He's obviously not read this forum, I don't think any other car has divided so many.

Off Topic i don't think its as bad as the D2 Vs D3 banter now that got really out of hand Laughing

Good load space pics above, one nice bit of design is how the smaller part of the 60% rear seat flops down to level to minimise impact of the lack of separate middle seat. I like that as you can still then get steel or wood through up onto centre arm rest or top of the dashboard Thumbs Up

That Heslop interview was embarrassing.

"We re-imagined the split tailgate for the 21st century"

Cobblers, you got rid of it. Man up and tell the PR department where to go to save further embarrassment. Be honest. Gerry runs the show now.

Top Gear summed it up nicely:

Although we rate the outgoing car as one of the great pieces of automotive design โ€“ of product design, in fact โ€“ LR insists that it polarised too many potential customers . Maybe thatโ€™s why the new one looks rather generic. Honestly, if you covered the badges, would you recognise it as a Land Rover? ........."

http://www.topgear.com/car-reviews/land-ro...irst-drive

Could be a Ford Sierra, or a Audi Q something, or a Ssyangyong Yawn

The D4 polarised too many customers? Shocked Errr, no, I think the D5 just did that. Rolling Eyes

โ€œIt might not look or feel it, but trust me โ€“ the new car is more rugged and capable than the old one,โ€ Alex Heslop insists.

Really? No off road accessories, no proper off roading demo, just some easy tracks, short rock crawl and a flat bottomed (prepared?) lake. Not exactly the Camel Trophy. Time lose the PR guff and show us what it can actually do that a Dacia Duster can't.

In light of 'Split Tailgate-gate' I've got a solution - leave the PR and spin to the professionals.
