I've just spent the day driving round in a FFRR L405. Motorways, A and B roads and off road. If the new D5 is as luxury as a Range Rover, as some journalists have suggested, yet more practical with a bigger boot and the seven seats then it will certainly be on my shortlist come time to change cars.
They had the best car in the 1960's
Pity they failed to modernise like the rest..... hopefully Landrover won't fall into that trap & will keep investing & improving.
SAAB's We're brilliant until GM imposed all the controls & killed of the innovation.....
I had the 900 with GM "straight Vee" 6 cylinder engine.....unbelievably good on poor surface roads going fast.
I believe the Defender replacement has to be multi role....commercial options, different wheelbases, capable of being built & adapted to all the uses we have seen.....after all it was a utility vehicle to begin with not a luxury car....it just caught on & became trendy & useful.
It's a big act to follow & has to generate sales numbers that justify its production.
I would have thought would use the hydro formed chassis of the D3/4....it's proven.BREXIT - done properly.
Right now ...We need Government - not Politics
Save the Dipstick Flagbearer-keep it simple, less likely to fail campaign-agenda items:Starting Handles, Acetylene Lamps.
Founder: Dipsticks-R-Us Inc
D3 HSE-perfectly formed, passenger friendly...has real DIPSTICK
Jag XK-but sadly no DIPSTICK...HUGE design fault
FL2 has DIPSTICK..."real comfort in rear seats"
VW Golf wondermobile (?)..has real DIPSTICK
Morris Minor..original DIPSTICK technology..and a real KEY.

Popped into the dealers this morning to pick up a brochure. I've got a couple of doubts which hopefully the test drive will cure.
J77 is it a new version or the same as the original download version?
That was:-
Jaguar Land Rover Limited 2016.
Publication Number:

There is no brochure to download at the moment, so I was wondering if it was changing?
Same as the download, they just got them in a couple of days ago.23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green

Having looked at the new D5 ....
I am sure everyone* will join me in congratulating JLR for their innovative design and 'urban camouflage' look... I'm sure everyone* in the company* will look forward to a massive sales increase and increased profits in 2017 and beyond..

Glad you like it.
LOL.. its so like a Chinese Copy/pastiche of a 'Euro SUV'...

Chosen By many, I agree.. but not very tasty really...
I bet all the other manufacturers LOVE it... more sales for them from some of the more traditional LR buyers I would suspect?
Many others people will, I'm sure, move into the LR brand from their Audi Q7s, BMW X?, Porsche .. Cayenne etc.. but I suspect to them a Winch would mean a snog and a Off Road would be describing where they park their 'jeep' 1 TR6 Rusting away quietly

My dealer has a pretty full order book and only a handful are from another brand, most already drive a LR product, I assume it will be from the Range Rover camp.
It's the exterior design, rear end mainly, and the price that I'm not keen on.23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green

I hate the back - reminds me of those classic 30's cars with the square soft-top added on. Front OK, nothing special. Some of the tech now finding its way to the Disco is about time - although to sound negative, nothing earth shattering.
However, what put me right off is the £69k for the spec similar to the current one. 70+ for one i thinks got something more.
Call me tight, but £60k+ for a discovery is just too much - its only a discovery after all!
In a few months time, i doubt my D4 replacement will be a d5Mike

I wanted the S, I'm happy with bog standard spec, as per my current SE but there isn't an option to add the LED headlights, not even xenons available and can't get the 3.0.
I agree about price but the whole LR range is over priced not just the D5, I ain't paying a penny more than what I'm paying at the moment, it's worth it if the payments are the same but it's not worth more.
Crazy money nowadays for a Land Rover and hard working LR fans like myself are being priced out in favour of the WAG type. It's changed days, I don't fit in with the now perceived LR customer, there ain't a car below £50K in my dealers showroom, rewind 10 years and there was coil sprung entry level D3s.23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green

@ Moo - i think you sort of miss the point. Ive had several of every land rover going except S1-3 and the point is they just arent worth it.
The price is silly, the spec not great and tech not great either and we pay less. When you compare my last RRS, top spec with options - it was less than the D5 to replace my current disco, which is a cheaper car!
there are a fair number of cars with better spec, better tech at a cheaper price - although i might get an f-pace...i might even ditch to disco for a new ford ranger or 5l mustang. Or as we discussed both, chop in the defender and the disco, saving 75% and not loosing a car. 75% is a significant figure.
£69k for a disco is too much - for a Range Rover (sport/evoque or FF) ok fineMike

Its just a reference to a generic jelly mould SUV. I could have picked half a dozen to represent the D5.
The XC90 and Merc GLS are on my list at the moment. D4 HSE EU6 (Known as Jeeves)

The XC90, Audi Q7 and Discovery were on my list when I started looking last Summer.
The Q7 was just too small inside and huge outside, the XC90 is a bit bland and I do not like the idea of the touch screen being used for so many functions.
I lurked on the XC90 forum for a while and the noise issues and software issues put me off.
I saw the D5 at Paris and decided it was the best of the bunch.
So that is what I have on order.
