Considering it starts at 43k it's a bit much they make it bigger but you have to pay for rear parking sensors when it was free on both d3/4 and as for wading see the Ford Ranger is now 800mm.

Where's the info re DEFENDER also being built on FFRR Chassis, is that open source?
I thought the new DEFENDER might be a tad shorter and narrower than the billeous FF guise that's trickled down through to its 4th incarnation if this is correct? If it is the Defender guys aren't going to be happy, going from something you can barely shut the door on if your wearing a big coat to something as cavernous as FFRR will kick the none split tailgate fiasco into a cocked hat. Two versions RR + RR long wheelbase
Edit.
As in 90 & 110
Again where are you getting this info from? or are you guessing? the standard FFRR is a lot longer than a 90 by 562mm
Vehicles that are being built on what was and still is the FFRR line are D5, RRS, FFRR and LWBFFRR so thats 5 different models however there are 3 different wheelbases at the moment.
Land Rover Wheelbases not including the Disco Sport or Evoque are:-
Defender 90 2,360
Defender 110 2,794
D5 coil 2,922 air 2,923
RRS 2,923
FFRR 2,922
LWBFFRR 3,120
Defender 130 3,226
Please not that the Defender dims could be + or - 30mm or both on the same vehicle In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

So looking at the dimensions AndrewS has provided there is scope for a D5 LWB, I looked at the FFRR LWB hoping it would have a better boot but its all for the Limo effect. If LR could produce a LWB D5 BUT utilise the extra space in the boot it would be great. Add the split tailgate back and I would rip their hands off MY06 S - Gone but not forgotten

I better say I'm guessing
I think that the Defender will be built usring the RR platforms, with shorter overhangs Peter

AndrewS, that's interesting that both the D5 and RRS are longer by 1mm than the FFRR, also if we are guessing what the defender will be built on, I'd say the dims wont be greater than the current D4.
And that it will run on a monocoque type body on D4 style underpinnings.
That would tick lots of boxes for lots of people, market sectors from commercial to private family cars on what is almost an existing production vehicle. Only dead fish go with the Flow !

From: http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars...ch-car-yet
Quote:Crucially, Speth confirmed in Paris that the new Defender would be based on the aluminium architecture of the Range Rover, Range Rover Sport and Discovery, meaning it can share the all-aluminium body shop and final assembly procedures of these models. However, Speth also confirmed that the Defender’s structure would need “a lot of different elements” to deliver the extremes of strength and durability customers will expect of Land Rover’s most capable off-roader.
And
Quote:Despite the riddle of the business case, Land Rover bosses know they need the Defender and say it will develop into a family of models. The Defender is certain to share the two wheelbases of the Range Rover — 2922mm and 3120mm in standard and longwheelbase guises respectively — but its overhangs are likely to be shorter, especially at the rear, and its ground clearance and arrival, departure and break-over angles will give it greater off-road agility than any other Land Rover.
The overall length of the different models is likely to be around 200 to 300mm less than the Range Rover’s 4999mm and 5199mm lengths, which will make the Defenders smaller and more manoeuvrable than their siblings. There’s no word on a three-door model, but given the likely 4.7-4.8m length of even the shorter version, Land Rover may decide against it. Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

The D5 is only 30mm shy of 5 meters, don't really need it to go any bigger, it looks long and out of proportion at the moment. 23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green

Hear what your saying about the length, it would be good if they offered different configurations though, maybe a D5XL or something where the boot space is bigger. Imagine the D5 with a square backend. I like the rounded glass on the Defender concept drawings they could do that MY06 S - Gone but not forgotten

Nothing wrong with a D3, 10 years on the D5 is unsurprisingly different!

Agreed, Without doubt THE BEST car i've owned but at 7 years old when the glow plugs went and the brake pipes needed replacing, the front bushes had gone AGAIN, the air pump packed up, the tailgate issue....... and my tennis elbow flared up with all that changing of the gears "Manual" i got shut of it.
I first drove a D3 in 2003 or it might have been 04? and i knew then i had to get one and i did, a bit like now. i know i need a D5 and i've not even driven it!
Even if its no better than my D3 i'll be a happy man. Split rear tailgate or not. Only dead fish go with the Flow !

Does anyone know why LR have decided to revert back to a single turbo for the D5?
