You haven't met me driving my Smart for-two. Even small cars try to push the tiny Smart off the road. I refuse to budge though & it's amazing how surprised people are, when they get out of their "bigger" cars to have a go, that a 6ft 7" 18 stone bloke can fit comfortably into a Smart

It wasn't today, but last weekend. Went on my annual January pig hunting trip, pulling the trailer (caravan to most of you) about 160 miles each way, and then logging about 100 off-road miles in surprisingly dry conditions.
The weather set records for cold temperatures for California, and many of the fruit crops were ruined last weekend. I woke up to temperatures farenheit as follows (per the thermometer on the LR3) Fri. 20d, Sat 14d and Sun 17d. The LR3 was fine, and started and ran well. The trailer not so good. The water pipes froze on Sat and Sun am. Couldn't even flush the toilet! But thawed late in the afternoon.
On the ranch where I was there were many steep hills, and I ran the vehicle in low gear range much of the time. The HDC works just fine and I had to use it occasionally on the gravelly roads. I could also really feel the rear locking diff kick in on the ascent of some of the steeper hills. Almost like a booster!! Never had to raise the vehicle, and from a technical point of view the roads were not challenging. Had they been wet, that would have been a different matter.
Pulling the trailer (weighs about 2.5 tonnes) without a load leveling hitch was a leap of faith by myself as well as my trailer guy. He was really skeptical. But it worked just fine, and the trailer seemed to pull much more smoothly than with my old 5.7 liter 330hp Jeep Grand Cherokee. And in fact the LR3 gets somewhat better mileage than the Jeep did.
As far as practicality for hunting, the LR3 beat my old vehicle all hollow. Handles better off road, has more usable space, bigger windows for viewing, and on and on. We did not get an animal, but I would say that in its maiden run, the LR3 passed all tests with flying colors. 8)
PS I'll post some pics as soon as I figure out how!'06 LR3 4.4 V8 HSE Heavy Duty package, Satellite Radio, Luxury Package

Family outing yesterday - made great use of having 7 PROPER adult seats! Everyone sank in beautifully. 'Flick of a switch' the the seats began to warm up as each passenger was absorbed into the leather... had the heater just right aswell. LUXURY!
Then for the practical bit; its 4 wheel drive was put into good use over some icy and slushy surfaces. The car effortlessly negotiated a variety of challenging tarcams..
Then for the useful bit; the air suspension allowed us to sink her right to the ground so that the oldies could jump in and out. Well, maybe not 'jump' but you know..
Then the fun bit. Foot down; revs shout, engine roars, the (just repaired by Land Rover) gearbox settled and whoooshh.
Ohh dear - I'll never tire of this car
