EAS valve blocks

Refurbished the front and centre valve locks on Saturday and that "sinking feeling" every morning seems to have gone away Very Happy Just the difficult rear one to do now when the weather permits and the glass back settles down Confused

Poorly Dennis

During call outs in the snow the other week, I rapidly learnt that the term “all season” is more an advertising slogan rather than a description of a tyres capability Very Happy

Going sideways to try and prevent hitting a colleague in the rear or a 40 toner head on, poor Dennis took the hit on the rear door Sad

After a false start with recieving the wrong door, I managed to source and fit a replacement door. It turned out to be a Pretty simple job, even when needing to swap out the wiring loom, door motor etc, but really pleased in the result, getting Dennis looking healthy again

Also went and replaced all four corners with AX7 A/Ts so all ready for more bad weather Smile

Made a new door for the pollen filter. Turns out the reason why the old one was missing is the bit it locks on to is broken.

Fitted a replacement shift lever surround along with the tambour style gaiter. The original had been plastic welded together because the clips were broken, of course it broke again getting it off.

Taken a trip to Port Lympne Reserve in Kent. A lovely drive over from Hampshire and a very welcome dinner upon arrival. The 'tents' are certainly the most luxurious canvass houses I've ever stayed in, and the animal park/safari reserve is excellent. Very kids friendly too, so a perfect short break for those of you with a family.

Last trip out the parking brakes were screeching like mad at low speed

Stripped down the rear brakes to get at the shoes, quite a lot of dust of course. I couldn't find the nearside adjuster through the hole to back it off. After much jiggling and twisting managed to get the disk/drum off.

The clip that holds one shoe was missing allowing the shoe to tilt, one reason why the disk was difficult to remove. I couldn't find the adjuster because the missing clip was locked onto the star teeth hiding them.

Of course the pin for the clip was missing so had to make up a new one out of a long machine screw.

One curiosity was several guides mention an allen bolt at the other side from the adjust but mine didn't have them.

Another 10k km driven, changed oil and and all the filters. Replaced the oil drain plug with a quick drain plug from Femco. Hopefully it makes things slightly less messy the next time around. Used Mannol oil this time.

In other news, one set of car keys have a refreshing air around it as they went through the washing machine for an hour or so…… Rolling Eyes Censored

Wasn’t all today, but in the last couple of weeks my D3 has taken me and dog camping in the Lake District, pulled a tree stump out of the garden, and taken kids to the beach in half term. #Best4x4xFar

Mechanic mode

New owner of a D3 2.7 TDV6 MY09 and within 2 weeks of getting it realised there were problems with the rear brakes binding and that the previous owner had no idea how many years ago it was he had it serviced.

So I’ve spent a lot of time this past week reading this forum, watching videos and collecting together parts.

So today I finally had it all together and set out on my first Disco maintenance adventure. I have today changed one of the rear callipers, and the disc pads on the rear. Done an engine oil and filter change including the fuel filter, a manual gearbox fluid change and changed to LED sidelights and white dipped and main beam headlights.

Funds exhausted for this month, but it feels like a different car to drive it already. Next month I reckon l’ll change the transfer case fluid. Anyone think it’s worth changing the front and rear diff fluid too? It’s done 90k miles which isn’t very much for a D3 it seems but I don’t think it’s been cared for very well in the past.

Anything else I should be saving to do? Any ideas welcome as I plan on owning it long term.

Got it through the first EU-check up, (equivalent to an MoT) in my ownership. Replaced rear LH side wheel bearing, rear drop links and blanked off the fog lights.
Now I'll keep it for at least two more years Laughing

Passed His MOT with flying colours Thumbs Up

They found the oil tears that he’s had for 5 years to to show they looked.

As he’s passed his exam, I also hit “buy” on a load of new toys for him as a treat (and a way to spend the money I’d put aside for a failure)

Also finally fitted a centre arm rest fridge today

new track rods and tie bar at the back
to get the MOT advisories sorted.
now off to James Hanshall engineering in Cheshire to get the tracking done
whilst there book him in for timing belts and upgraded oil pump
then order new boots and new suspension airbag all round.

blooming expensive month this has turned out to be, but worth it as he'll be
perfect again.

oh and the joy's of owning a blooming D3, spare wheel cable system is now fubared too
more expense
