Thanks for the info Mark. It's interesting that I'd say my XXV exhibits the same problems with hot feet, cold face and windscreen as yours when set to Auto. I haven't yet had the TSB applied to mine, but there does seem to be some evidence that the problems started with MY14.D4 MY14 XXV - RLD/IID BT

i would say that it wasnt right before my other woes
but i can confirm its not working right now unless i manually overide the vent control
i "think" based upon 1 run that it improved mid process but that is only based on the 1 run so i wouldnt say thats evidence enough to be conclusive on that

I have read all this today - I have the same issue in 2012 D4.
Using IID Tool I have internal temp reading of 29oC but its more like 19oC, with controls set to 23oC.
Can you recalibrate this using IID Tool? Do anything using the tool to help?

The temperature difference between cabin actual and sensor is quite normal.
I am still in contact with LR CS and the dealer has also escalated it.

Perhaps 'quite normal' is the wrong expression.

When I say normal I mean it is actually part of the design rather than being a issue on these model years. I logged quite a few different model years and they all read massively higher than the "real" internal temperature. I guess there is a offset in the software to compensate.

I find it hard to believe that it is part of the design - why would you deliberately misread the internal temperature?
I've seen a few vehicles with over-reading interior sensors (Lexx most recently on his facelifted MY10) but my assumption has always been that this is a fault somewhere (sensor, ducting or wiring) as usually these owners also complain about the heating.
My sensor works ok most of the time, but on long journeys the sensor can heat-up a little more than true ambient so I have to push the dial up a degree or two. I have a roll of insulation to add to the sensor location, which I never seem to get around to. Other than that it behaves wonderfully and keeps me toasty warm.
Anyway screenshot from my MY13 this morning. It really is 8 deg C inside and a chilly 7 deg C on the outside, the vehicle has not been run since yesterday so the coolant is down at 5 deg C:

What does it read when it is warm though, the temperature on first start up seems to be accurate but as it warms up the internal reading goes up and up. I tried MY12, MY16 and a couple of others. I did wonder about a roll of insulation, but the air distribution seems all over the place which causes the cold areas.
I would be interested, but being honest I am selling mine now as Land Rover claim there is no problem and cannot help. In the cold weather it is uncomfortable without playing with the controls, so given up and moving on.

As said, it reads correctly apart from on a very long drive (over 3 hours) where it can over-read by up to 2 deg C. This is easily compensated for by a click or two on the dial.
This 'as designed' nonsense from LRCS is just something they say to customers when they don't want to admit an issue. Sometime they say 'as designed' before issuing a recall or TSB fix.
I regard the 'as designed' phrase when spoken by LRCS as a request to go away as they cannot be bothered anymore. Sadly in your case you are going away from owning the vehicle. I don't think LRCS even keep a tally of customers it has forced away from the marque; they are more concerned with defending the product at all costs but with the minimum of bad press. You are right, it is a shame and not a great business plan although sales seem to be increasing anyway. I mentioned the external temperature issue where they claim it was working to design intent and then a TSB came out later to fix something which they claimed was working. You know what, if they said yes it's a problem we will fix it, but it might take 3 months, I would understand and wait for the fix. But when they don't admit the issue, which is pretty obvious if you look at the reports then you have no idea if it will ever be fixed. Especially as it is now a older model.

Anyone know how to remove the trim on a 2016 model to check LTB 00963 - HVAC?
Searched the forum for details and did find a post with diagram showing a rrsport trim removal
I've had a go and it's not like the H trim on my old D3 and everything is very tight and doesn't want to give

Also having thew same problem we have just collected our 65 plate D4 the heating is nothing like our 2010 D4 we were both happy at 21 now we have to have it set to at least 25 in the new one to get warm how have land rover managed to change something that wasn't even broke!
Has any one made any progress wit this?

Mine has just been dropped off tonight again......
At least they are acknowledging there is something wrong...
Driver who collected agreed that after 20 mins it blows cool air.
on the print out that came back with it there are the following things on it..
Carry out VHC and CitNow combined. (not a clue what this is )
another says.
*Recalibrated stepper motor.
Tested ambient temperature and found
to be 26.6 degrees (when auto set to 26 degrees)
Lets see..................

It seems to work fine on warm up using both floor and dash vents bit once its warm it seems to shut off the dash vents and only use the floor outlets
If you press the manual overide for dash vents the cabin warms quickly again
I think this is a more of a vent mix control issue

I'm experiencing the same on a MY16 Landmark. What I've noticed is that the dash panel where the air sensor duct is located is warm to the touch after about 1hr of driving, certainly much warmer than the other 'upper' dash panels. The lower panels on the centre tunnel get warm due to the ducts to the rear. It's clearly seems a design flaw to place the internal temperature sensor in the warmest part of the dash, unless its not supposed to get warm in that area?
My suspicion is that the warmth is due to heating from inside the dash and I wonder if some part of the heater duct system is 'leaking' warm air on the driver side, or perhaps the ducts to the foot wells need more thermal insulation round them to stop heat transferring to the area around the sensor?
Like Tonymcg I'd like to remove the front trim panel that houses the temperature sensor to see if there is anything obvious inside the dash
