I did not vote and it does not impact me (certainly not now) but still I owe a lot to the UK (and my daughter was born there and always lived there) and I do care for the UK and I have an opinion.
Also I feel the atmosphere in UK has deteriorated substantially. Always seen UK citizen as one big group of people but it is not like that anymore. The brexit vote has poisoned the country
Also I do not have problem with remainer or leaver but I do find funny a certain attitude in certain leavers
I am also disappointed for how Brexit is handled by the government to the point that I like a little bit more the EU vs before

Still I am also sad to see that an English colleague (and a very good one) has to leave the company here in Portugal because of Brexit (He has lived in France before and family was there and needs to go back to France to have the right to apply for citizenship and ensure he can stay whatever happens)
It takes all sorts (to make a world).

That is the point.
No one said that anyone needs to leave the UK, or anyone leave a country or company like yours.
The UK as said this.
The EU have said this.

If we have a hard Brexit then that may change, but it takes 2 to tango.
The EU and UK.
Niether of them can have there cake and eat it.

As for poison i don't think that at all.
Maybe we said what a lot of others are thinking within the EU.

If the EU Parliment had listened more to our concerns, then maybe this would could have been avoided.
But with all parliments around the world, they get blinkered and never sway from there own goal, until people revolt against them.

I work with co managers from Poland, Porto and other places of the world. And class them as freinds, and in no way have treated them any differant since the vote.

As i have stated before.
Beating the UK up over trade is a no win for both of us.

There are 195 countries in the world today.
This total comprises 193 countries that are member states of the United Nations and 2 countries that are non-member observer states: the Holy See and the State of Palestine
Take away the 27 that do not wish to trade with us anymore, that will still leave us an option to trade with the other
166 + 2.
In saying that, the same option goes for the EU.

Thumbs Up
 Regards
Ray

Hi Ray
have not seen a lot of clarity from the UK side so far. It seems that things are getting more clear now but it took to long and a lot of people who certainly hopes for the best has to prepare for the worst (as my english friend at work).
Do you think it is reasonable that the first formal meeting between key members of the UK government to discuss what UK wants to achieve was a few days ago?

Brexit has created a lot of uncertainties and the position of the UK has been very arrogant at the beginning (lot of examples) which has generated even more concerns. Funnily enough now there seems to be more clarity and it seems to be more and more a EU style solution vs all the shouting and go and Whistle from the UK. Position of EU has looked so far much more consistent, clear and well defined

It was the UK keeping on saying that it can have there cake and eat it. No brexit bill, same benefit of being in EU without the things we do not like, lot of money that now will be available for others. EU was very silent because they were preparing and now they seems much more united in 27 than what the UK can express

Quote:
Maybe we said what a lot of others are thinking within the EU.

so far the opposite has proven true. All in UK where say that election in various EU countries would have signaled anti EU attitude and it is the opposite. You do remember the famous domino effect image I have posted a few times here, do you? Laughing Laughing Laughing . UK does not understand/represent EU which is why Brexit was not a surprise for me (still I think it was of great value to have UK in EU)

and I have not doubt about that. I did not see relevant changes (apart from some stupid jokes sometimes) towarsd me when I was in UK (but some of our friends did see changes).
Still overall particularly in the first months after the vote there was an hostile attitude which is also reflected by the several messages "of love" that now we receive from the UK government to confirm that we are welcome to stay in UK and that our rights will be preserved (you could subscribe to receive messages from the UK government regarding EU citizen in UK). You might not remember tM when was saying that EU doctors could stay in UK till when the 1000 more a year british doctors were trained

The vote, the campain for it and a certain attitude has poisoned the atmosphere

but even more stupid is to say that UK will have the same as before as it is not going to be like that
It is obvious that things cannot be the same as before

Quote:

Sure but still believe that UK in the 28 would have been better and stronger

Still UK is just an island in the sea and I am here safe on the continent now so no problem for me (but we are keeping a flat there when we want to come back) Wink Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter

PS: if you do come to Porto let me know and we can eat something togethr or at least have a good glass of Port Wink

I realise every single brexiteer has a different reason for leaving and each one scrabbles around looking for the one reason that they think makes sense Wink ...but this was raised as one of the leading reasons at the time ....as confirmed by the leading brexiteer

Quote:
Former UKIP leader Nigel Farage responded to the announcement by tweeting "Happy Brexmas!"

He added: "In the 2016 referendum, we wanted our passports back. Now we've got them back!"
