I'm never too sure where this leaves the voters. They must have shown their support for the political parties these MPs represented at the last election, but the MPs have now abandoned that party so presumably no longer represent the very people who elected them?
Will there now be by-elections in these constituencies?Mods:

Nothing new. It was Plato, I think, who is creditied with first describing the division of labour. Interestingly, he described needing just seven people to establish a society.A vaccine does not stop you catching a virus, or passing it on, or getting ill from it, really ill. It does reduce the likelyhood of you dying when really, really ill. Stay Alive - KEEP AWAY FROM PEOPLE.

You vote for the person not the party, so an MP switching party does not automatically trigger a by-election though they often follow. It is not mandated. MP’s have switched party in the past and retained their role as MP e.g. Quentin Davis who flipped from Tory to Labour.
Yes, I know, most people vote for the person standing for the party they support, nonetheless, the individual takes the vote, not the party. It is only ‘recently’ (can’t recall when) that the name of the party has appeared on the ballot paper, it used just to be the name of the candidate.

Normally yes, but because of boundaries, I'm actually in Hazel Grove 2 constituency despite living in Stockport.
@ Comedyharvey, I understand the sentiment but for voters who vote for a party, they've been let down by this situation regardless of who the candidate might be.
Voting for the person doesn't make any of this right when you've voted for the party they were representing. Mods:

Not saying it’s right or wrong Narpy, just saying the way it is.

Arguably a number of these constituents voted for the Labour Party but found themselves with the Momentum Party instead.

Certainly the case being argued by Angela Smith on Politics Live at lunchtime. Claiming many of her Labour voting constituents were not happy with Corbyn/momentum etc.Arthur.
