That's the point.

Completely rebranded it for the live laugh love greige interior beige tracksuit generation. Like if Boohoo made cars.

So you’re saying the target market is both Ali G. and Russian mobsters only?

JagUaR or whatever it is, is no longer a car manufacturer but a white goods supplier. Not sure I'd buy one over Miele though. Confused

This will rapidly become a case study in rebranding and company failure at business schools around the globe for generations of MBA students. Rolling Eyes

All set for an April 1st launch date it seems, this does nothing for brand history and heritage let alone brand loyalty

I think they need to fix the coffee machine

Perhaps there's a market for aftermarket Jaguar badging to replace the new infantile stuff with traditional stuff on the new cars. Thumbs Up

They want Youtube 'influencers' buying them on finance. Did the same with Defender.

I think that's exactly what they are trying to achieve, aside from retaining the Jaguar name. Past racing glories, legendary 6 cylinder engines and iconic designs etc. are not relevant for the new brand of electric luxury vehicles. Which will be ‘a copy of nothing’, including it seems anything to do with Jaguar's past!

Will the demographic of the potential buyers want to be associated with the past glories of Jaguar or not? Perhaps more importantly, will they even care?

Whether or not this is a good strategy remains to be seen. I am not sure that ditching the original badge will achieve anything at all and I would have thought it might be more detrimental than beneficial, but that's just a hunch.

Personally I'd prefer the old badge, but that wouldn't stop me from buying a new Jaguar if it's what I wanted.

BTW, "a copy of nothing" was a phrase coined by Jaguar founder William Lyons.

Interesting take, LT. It does beg the question: why even bother with the Jaguar name? Why not start a brand new brand just like the Chinese have done? If they want the name then they must be hoping for some link to past glories.

Feels like they haven't got a clue what they really want to achieve. Reminds me of this:

The D5, a great example of poor market understanding.

I was at an independent LR dealer recently. He sells 4 times as many D4 as D5 and the price differential is getting less and less. Seems there isn't that much love for the D5. If you want an example of what's possible with good branding and product continuity look at the Mercedes G-Wagon or Toyota LT.

I’ll guess that whilst Tata have chosen to completely rebrand Jaguar, they’ve been advised that an established automotive name is preferable to a new one. Although I’ve no doubt that a name change was an option à la Volvo and Polestar. Perhaps some research has shown that the Polestar EV’s should have been Volvo branded? Who knows?

I’m often sceptical about the potential benefits of rebranding, unless there are obvious reasons to do so and I can’t really understand why Tata feels that it needs to take such a drastic approach. That’s just my opinion though and clearly not shared by Tata:

Jaguar, the British luxury auto brand, unveiled its new logo and branding strategy on November 19, according to a report by PA Media. The company is moving towards becoming an only-electric car maker. However, the reactions on social media platforms were far from ideal.

The new logo comes ahead of Jaguar's plans to launch three new electric cars in 2026and was aimed at being a “fire break” as the company moves towards becoming a fully electric luxury brand.

Further, a new concept car showcasing Jaguar’s new look for the road will be unveiled at Miami Art Week on December 3.

Stylised as JaGUar, the company said the new logo “seamlessly blended upper and lower case characters in visual harmony”. The prancing “leaper” cat design is also getting an update embossed on brass, along with marketing slogans such as “delete ordinary”, “live vivid” and “copy nothing”, the report added.

In a statement, Jaguar MD Rawdon Glover said taking new cars off sale was “intentional” as it looked to create a barrier between the old models and the new-look Jaguars.

“From a marketing sense, at the moment, there are lots of people out there that know what Jaguar stands for, and actually it doesn’t stand for them, and we’ve seen that in terms of how they’ve responded to the offering that’s been in the market for the last 10 or 20 years. We need to change people’s perceptions of what Jaguar stands for. And that’s not a straightforward, easy thing to do. So having a fire break in between old and new is, actually, very helpful,” he stated.

Let’s hope the new look Jaguar brand is a success.

So probably leaving the Jaguar styling cues and going for something that looks like everything else (angular, creased, etc.) and appeals to the Far Eastern taste.
