Well it's back now, after its uneventful visit to stealer. We shall see. I'll keep you posted.

Rusty rear wiper replaced under warranty today, nearly 3 years old, Thumbs Up Pivot pin was so seized that the spring could hardly make any pressure on the glass.

Stealer investigating rust on chassis surrounding trailer electrics sockets in back bumper. Seems to be endemic.

As the thread originator, I can confirm that the driving styles issue sounds wrong. I used to regularly do long motorway journeys and accelerate hard on slip roads and pulling out at junctions etc. it is not the case that I never engaged the second turbo regulars.

Furthermore, after my engine did finally did go bang, the new engine they fitted has been perfect (so far). No smoking at all, and my driving style has been identical over the 30k on the new engine as it was during the 14k on the first engine.

Sorry to hear OP are still having issues. Like Russell, I know jus how much of a pain this was.

Interesting, I've just stumbled on this thread. I've had exactly this issue with my 2010 RRS TDV6 3.0 over the past six months, in Australia. After umpteen dealer visits, not one but two secondary turbo replacements, body off twice including once to replace the scavenger pump, LR finally washed their hands of it, gave up, and shipped out a brand new engine from Soiihull. Body off again. I've had the car back for 6 weeks now, only done about 700km in that time, but so far, so good.

I must say though, that throughout the rather testing exercise, the dealer's customer service was exemplary. And they never quibbled about anything, they just did it.

The first engine had only done about 27,000km when the smoke issue started. I'm just hoping this new engine doesn't develop the same issue about the same age.

Greg.

PS: does anybody know if LR are going to fit the 4.4V8 to the Sport for next year?

Welcome to disco4.com Ranger1. Sorry you've had the same issue too - but glad to hear that the customer service has been so strong, given the circumstances.

My new engine has behaved since it was replaced so I hope yours does too!

Best of luck with it.

It might be a problem with the secondary turbo pulling oil up from the sump when it is not being used , then when it is used blowing the oil out the back. My 40k D4 has just had a fix fitted from land rover technical. My understanding is that LR recognise there is a fault and to be fair have sorted mine. It is spot on now.

What did they do to fix it?
Mine is booked in for it's service in 2 weeks and I have told them of the problem but want to make sure I'm not fobbed off with a "oh thats normal"

I believe they fitted a blanking plate that was a jag developed fix to stop the oil returning. There is supposed to be a technical bulletin from LR re this just released.

After reading all this and having a similar issue in an SS tdv8 I think the end result that actually fixes it is a new engine Sad

It has to be either worn valve stem seals or a sloppy piston ring as the turbo would just leak smoke all the time not just under boost IMO.

Watch your oil levels and see how much oil is being used as well Sad

It's a shame jlr/psa/ford still aren't making rebuild kits for these engines that are allowed to leave their engine plant as it would make life so much easier for you all if they could be rebuilt at the dealer Sad

Not according to Duffs - the mod seems to have worked for him without having to have a new engine Thumbs Up

I still think there's an issue if oil is moving of a serious quantity to pool then it's either poor design or just poorly!

Don't know but if the mod stops the problem then I'd be happy with that Thumbs Up
To be honest as I don't floor it often I wasn't too concerned although wondered if it was normal Question
Hearing other forum members with the same symptoms is a great reassurance - what a great source of knowledge this forum is Bow down
As for me I'll see what LR say & do

Stopping a problem and fixing a problem are entirely different things...
