Sorry Michele, just read your post.
Simply changing the oil won't get all the old oil out. You need to flush it twice in order to do that. Always change the pan filter as well when you change the oil.
Any transmission specialist should be able to check your oil.

Do you have problems with your box?

Hi guys.

I have a 2007 V8 4,4l. I have had it since new and I am now on 100 thousand Km.

I plan to keep this vehilce for anothe 100 thousand! I have never had any gearbox issues. Do I need to flush the gearbox oil purely as a maintenance issue or only if I experience the dreaded judders?

I would change the ATF (use correct rated, ZF is best) and put a new steel pan with filter. then do another change in about 50K. Idea

Hi CaverD3.

How's this for interesting:
I called our local ZF people. he told me that the ATF should be changed at 60 thousand KM, but because ZF gaurantee the box for 100 thousand km LandRover don't bother telling you this?????! Shocked

Also, at 100 thousand KM the ATF is degraded. Changing it now would increase the rate of wear in the box!!! Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Shocked WHAT?! He said I should not change the ATF.

Anybody heard this before?

Does not surprise me but changing at 60K you still leave a lot of ATF in the TC. So maybe a flush at 100K? The degredation also will depend upon use towing hot conditions etc. 100K would be ok I think for normal use but as many have said; change often if you tow. Thumbs Up

Hi I have ordered the following additives for my car since I have read on the Ford F150 forum where they experience the same problem with the same box.

The shudder disappears totally when the Lubegard products are added, according to the forumites , yes permanently!!!!!!

They add
1 x 2fl oz of DR TRANNY INSTANT SHUDDER FIX
http://www.lubegard.com/~/C-230/Dr.+Tranny+Instant+Shudder+Fixx
2 X 10fl oz of LUBEGARD ATF PROTECTANT OR LUBEGARD HIGLY FRICTION MODIFIED ATF

and voila in the ZF6HP26 gearbox.Runs smoother, cooler and eliminates the shudder.

Worth a try, I say.

Well I have only a slight shudder when I tow, according to agents I require a new TC , have done the double flush myself with FUCHS ATF 4400 and it's much better but still have this slight shudder occasionally.


Mine only arrives in a fortnight, will keep you posted.

Great information on the friction modifier. That would confirm then, the torque converter is the problem. Early ones had problems with the coatings on the clutches, replacing it with a refurbished one should fix the problem.

I posted the same message in another discussion on the same subject, but this one seems a bit more livelier.

I do/did? have the same issue : bad vibes between 1500 an 2000 rpm/. and most pronounced when more torque is needed (going up-hill e.g.) most of the posts on the subject point to the auto gearbox and clutch lock-up, torque converter issues. So of I go to the dealer and for 2nd opinion to a local ZF specialist. Neither of them is convinced it is the gear box or TC. The car changes gears smoothly, there does not seem to be excessive slipping of the TC etc.

Already changed the ATF 20.000 k ago but made no difference, if anything it made vibrations more pronounced. I've waited 210.000 k before the first ATF change, so an additional one seems appropriate and I booked her in shortly. I hope that that will be the end of it. Don't fancy to dole out short of 4000€ for swapping a gearbox.

This weekend I did some long due cleaning : the intercooler and the MAP sensor. Both were as filthy as ...
The intercooler was completely clogged up, so probably an efficiency of 2% (and I think it has been for at least 50.000 k as that is how long ago the D3 has taken its last mud bath) It seems that hosing it down does not seem to do the trick.

Anyways took a lot of the mud out so that at least there is some "intercooling". (still not more than 50% but I did not have enough time to get rid of all the crud.
The MAP was completely caked in black soot, even though the hole was still open I have been able to extract quite some black soot out of it. (Gas, WD40 and careful prodding with rolled up thin slivers of tissue paper)

I took the car out today and to my astonishment the bad vibes seem to have gone. Still early days and it may still come back but I'll keep my fingers crossed.

If it is confirmed by the next 1000 k (next week ore something) I'll work on a theory to explain this. Someone got any ideas?

I have tried the lubegard additive, they have send me 2 x bottles of ATF FRICTION MODIFIER and not what I wanted. It did absolutely zero for the shudder.


Can anybody tell me if any of the later D3 models have the 6HP28 gearbox in?
I found this in a RR FORUM.

"In 2007 ZF introduced an ‘improved’ version of the 6HP26, called the 6HP28 – now used in the latest L322s – which, amongst other improvements, had a mechanical spring/damper assembly built into the lock-up clutch. It was advertised in the technical press at the time as “ZF’s new vibration-reducing torque converter”."

Guys, I have amazing news.

The 2 x tubes of DR TRANNY INSTANT SHUDDER eventually arrived from an agent in S.A. .

It layed on my desk for a month.

I have added it and guess what...........................................................................................




My shudder is gone, completely gone , what amazing stuff.


Now I realise why the guys on the Ford F150 forum raves about it and a chap on the Jaguar forum.



This is a additive that works!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Would a slipping TCC cause any fault codes to be logged Question

I had a BAS remap a few weeks back and it is designed to increase torque as opposed to outright BHP and speed. I now notice a 'rev blip' when changing up between 2nd and 3rd and am now convincing myself that the whole trans is not as smooth as it should be.

Have reset gearbox adaptations, no effect but have not reflashed the box yet (yes - it does have the 2nd gear - 1st gear thump)

Car is D3 HSE 2005 and has 82K on clock - 4Tech flush done 18 months (10K) ago to solve shudders.

Did 4tech test the ATf for water (glycol test)? If not, I would start there. If rad is leaking water into ATF, a megaflush may help for a while, but will only delay the inevitable. I would not start with the assumption that the cause was the remap.
 2005, TDV6 S, Auto, 190k miles, owned from new, V8 Brake Upgrade, Nancom Evo, RLD protector, BAS EGR blanking & Remap, separate ATF cooler, changing all the fluids ahead of time.
