Yes, but the car must be level if you are also checking the level in the box - otherwise, just stick it in off road height and make sure the car can't drop on you.
Or jack the one side (Drivers) so the car is leaning over.Mark.

I had some intermittent shuddering on one frequented hill that I put down to wheel alignment/balance. With 153,000kms on the clock and no attention to the transmission I finally understood it was slippage as it started to happen in other places. My indy service agent was concerned doing the first flush might induce shock as it should have been done as a preventative measure 70,000 kms ago.
Anyway 1 tube of Dr Tranny based on feedback in this thread (at AUD$17 from Bursons parts in Parramatta) and instant fix.
I added via the cooler plumbing (noting the ATF was dark), 100 metres later up a steep hill and it was a different car. To do this in a reasonable time I used a foot pump to push the fluid level down before adding DrTranny.
Furthermore my average fuel consumption started to drop with days of just urban driving.
Next project will be to do a pan replacement/ flush and add the other product Lubegard red as a preventative measure.Jul 04 Build TDV6 HSE Car #466 , Reversing Camera, Front Brembos Rear V8 brakes, Allisport intercooler, D4 Bluetooth and the odd S/W upgrade courtesy of the Faultmate MSV-2

Ok a bit of feedback. I collected my car tonight from the specialist. Very professional service but very expensive day. Really pleased with it based on the short drive home. It drives better now than I have ever known before. I have owned car 18mths and am sure now that it has been on way out since I bought it.
They have fitted a new torque convertor, as old one was damaged by water contamination. They have refurbished the box with new seals, friction surfaces etc etc. Filled with new proper oil and fitted it with seperate ATF cooler in front of the main radiator. They have worked on the car for some 50 hours! I have paid 2750 for all this which is a big hit.
I expect many more of you are going to have the same problems soon. It appears to be a design fault with the radiator that causes this whole issue.
I am no expert but if I was read this and my car was 4-5 years old I would look to either fit a new rad as preventative measure or fit an auxiliary ATF cooler. That way you should not have the big bill I have paid today!!!
Will feedback on how car goes over next few days. Great to have it back. One big grin despite the bill. Cheers
Sorry to drag up old memories but could I ask who you used for the work
Just lost all drive in mine so looking that maybe need all work you had done and would rather use someone with experience

I've been to both places - the latter changed my sump for the metal one and I photographed the process, plus I saw their rebuild process - they remanufacture all sorts of gearboxes including the one in the D3.
I've had no work done by the former, but based on my experience of the latter they are good guys Mark.

Hello all,
I started to see similar problem. No issues with accelerating just I feel a small flutter. Tried to see when and why this comes but could not find any regularity. The car goes well clutch does not seems to slip.
So is it a huge problem that is going to get worst? Seeing the numbers to renew it cost like 400 EUR, and a new is sky high my 8 years old car with 170.000km.
If anyone solved their problem please let me know or what were the symptoms you experienced starting from a little flutter...will I see more signs that this is getting worst or an live with this few more years?

VMTP are currently looking into my transmission issue. I report back once they complete their investigations.
oh, they gave me a complimentary car - a 10 year old Honda Accord. Works for me D4 HSE all the way
Think yourself lucky, I have an R reg Saxo on loan from them.
I suspect saw yours in the yard when I took mine in earlier in the week - half rack on?
Should get mine back early next week, though I'm not sure what they have had to replace apart from the TC yet. Mark.

Yup. Must be. They have 3 in. They believe that mine should be ready early next week. I have a very large bill coming my way. After VAT, I recon north of 1800 notes.
As long as it's fixed and get the smooth changes back, then we are good.D4 HSE all the way

So, okay. I had to hand in the mean machine this morning.
My D4 is now back and what was interesting, the difference the rebuild made on how it drives is amazing. Not only in terms of smooth gear shifts, but on throttle off, previously I was getting an amazing amount of engine braking. This is now gone and the car can coast beautifully as expected.
The damage.
It seems that I needed a new TC, clutch drum (mine was damaged it seems - awaiting to see it), and a complete overhaul kit.
To note.
They told me that my gearbox oil was completely broken down and ZF have just issued a bulletin stating that the oil should be replaced every 30K miles. Has anyone else heard this?
The megatronic valve body had not been replaced, just simply cleaned. I am not sure what that actually means. Is it expected that this would go at some point?
All-in-all, the car is now amazing again and the bill to go with it was amazingly high too. Lets hope it now lasts.D4 HSE all the way
