Has anyone ever developed a workaround for this issue, or is it simply deemed not possible ?

You can lock everything and then just open tailgate, which leaves other doors locked and secured, no tooting.
I think difference between D3 and D4 is that you have to press lock twice on D3 to disable interior alarms, whilst on D4 you only press it once.
Confused - I always double press the button as I was under the impression it deadlocks the car? Am I wrong?
Read something on the dash info saying single button lock or something - how is that connected? Last of the D4 HSE...

As far as i am aware on the D4, press lock once to lock your dog in, alarms not set and interior handles still open the doors, or twice to dead lock and set the alarm.
Im still interested if anyone knows how to make the D4 alarm sound the horns as i just tried mine outside my bedroom window and i doubt it will be waking me up! Good bye untrusted p38

I've tried and failed regarding D4 alarm using horns. The sounder itself is pretty loud but sits inside a box under an insulated bonnet, so it's always going to struggle. .

I wonder -is it possible to fit an additional loud sounder that’s triggered when the LR Sounder activates?

Wiring diagram refers to a "passive sounder if fitted" but I've never pursued that avenue .

Thanks, Interesting- next question where can one find the wiring diagram on the web? Assuming of course it’s available.
Reckon it might be an option to put a loud auxiliary sounder on the Disco, might act as a deterrent to the ODB access theft as from the videos I have seen of the theft the alarm goes off but it’s that quiet nobody hears it, so a decent loud sounder may make them jump, and not want to hang about with a lot of noise, something like a TLC 118db siren or louder if available

if you have a D3, as your profile suggests, just remove the (faint) sounder and car will use the horns. search relevant threads on here.

If you have an IId tool, there is an option in the ccf to enable horn on alarm, you would think this would do the trick, but according to bodsy, apparently its only 50:50 chance... Mine didn't Good bye untrusted p38

I've just had a wee first play with the IId tool and there is an option in the CCF once downloaded to change the alarm setting to use the horn set to enable and upload back to the car.
Seems to work but I have to say it was terrifying watching the car turn itself off/on as I sat there thinking I'm about to brick my new to me D4
Just realised this is a duplicate post ....sorry ....but for info it did work

Think if you just disconnect the alarm sounder it reverts back to using the horn, no need to adjust any settings

I disconnected my sounder box many years ago but recently became aware that some helpful mechanic had reconnected it.
During work on the car I've wanted to lock the car before disconnecting the battery, (the bonnet switch has been bypassed). This has not been possible because the sounder has gone off when I disconnected the battery.
Today I disconnected the sounder box and when I did so it went off very loudly as the 2nd battery cover was off and the bonnet open. I had some difficulty silencing it as it was not easy to replace the connector.
Unlocking the car to silence the sounder was not successful.
Has anybody had a similar experience or can offer a suggestion why my sounder would go off when disconnected?.
Is it possible that the helpful mechanic has also changed a CCF setting?.
I have not yet tried disconnecting the sounder when the car is unlocked, then locking the car before disconnecting the battery as my neighbour's baby is teething. If I get an opportunity whilst they are out I'll post the result.
Thanks for any suggestions.
John
