Embarassed ok, ok, I'll tak a looksie. I must admit I've only opened the bonnet once since Feb, when we got the first one Embarassed Makes a bit of a change from the last ten years with a moggy minor, I can tell you ... Exclamation Exclamation

I agree it makes sense, I just wondered why they did it, since I would have thought that they would leave as much as possible the same. Maybe it's always like that, I've never had a LHD car before, even if we did get this one in the UK.

I'd open the bonnet and check your oil, as if you havent since new in Feb, you might be in for a shock, like no oil showing on the dipstick!

The first 6000-8000 miles seems to be the worst for oil usage.

Thanks for the tip. I hadn't expected that level of consumption! In fact, it's not a problem at the moment, since we got a new car at the end of July. I did check the first one (once Embarassed ) during the five months we had it and it hadn't used very much, so I left it alone.

Worth keeping an eye on though.

The oil usage from new caught me out.

And, I've just done the alarm "update", and its much louder with the horns. Why put the alarm sounder under a cover where the sound cant get out!

The oil usage is due to the fact that the block is semi-porous by design. Some oil, up to a litre or so, is then slowly absorbed to make a waterproof 'membrane' in the block Wink

Never had to fill up oil with the disco (TdV6) (now 30.000km), I do check before long trips.
the two company's two Astra's have had enormous oil usage during all of their 250.000km
Peugeot 406 had oil usage during the first +/-30.000km, afterwards OK.
Considerable Oil usage should not occur I guess...

Some legal norms said my dealer when I claimed him the alarm can bearly be heard. The maximum sound level is 90dB.

Thanks Chris200100

I was going to ask someone else how to do this (I'm sure he'll know who I'm talking about), but you've saved me the bother! Very Happy

What excellent service, thank you all. Going to get my screwdriver out this weekend. I suppose when I take off the plug and insulate it, I should write a note on it for the dealer, saying "please leave me disconnected". I might only ever find out that they had reconnected when it was too late - in which case I would never find out anyway!! Glad Chris's instructions were clearer than this posting.

Just a thought (and sorry to be a damp squib) What about your insurance? If you are loosing some functionality of the alarm, they might not be too happy and we know how they like to wriggle.

Sadly not - on other forums I visit, you get a ranking which changes as you go past various post counts - though I expect 10 would have bust any system we could have here by now Wink

Sounder part number YWK500040 is listed as non-tilt sensor sounder with battery backup
YWK500050 is listed as battery backup sounder with tilt sensor.....

I have to say, the battery backup is obviously useless as it does not sound the alarm when the battery is disconnected or the plug is removed Rolling Eyes which is surely the point of the battery backup? Confused
