Guys the answers are all on here
To switch a Tom Tom with ignition you need to modify the unit. Not easy.
As for logo...find one via google, save to computer, plug sat nav into computer and with 1490 just drop image into photos file on sat nav. Then access the photo in the sat nav menu and tick use as start up screen.

Well I wired it all up today.
Took me a while but got there in the end.
Tricky bit for me was getting the power socket panel out - managed it in the end but the metal clips just pinged off and were lost. But not needed really.
I discovered that the black and the purple wires that feed the left hand side power socket can actually be got to from behind the aircon panel thing and so you dont really have to remove the power sockets. I used the screw type connector things and so may replace them next weekend.
I started drilling a hole in the bottom of the panel behind the new sat nav but ran out of time....so I tucked the wire into place coming from the bottom of the left hand air vent and then along the bottom of where the sat nav sits. Hey presto the H panel went back in place and the wire is hidden. So seems to save drilling.
I tucked the traffic wire up behind the top glove box but I dont think that it will get a signal there. So will see if I can extend it and somehow run it up an A pillar.

I tried a USB extension cable, but every time the satnav started it took ages to come on plus it didn't pick up traffic info. So took it out and used the supplied cable on it's own and got last 6 inches of traffic aerial to stick out up passenger A post, picks up traffic info and starts up very quickly. I haven't tried any other cable.

If done right run behind glovebox & air vent l/h side then should be able to get upto 2" to stick in bottom corner traffic signal no problems as Lad stated...

Gazzab you can download landrover logo without garminin background unless you wanted it. One warning depending if you use bluetooth off garmin some arn't so good for recieving reception so might have oneway only.

Cheers guys. I'll try rerouting the traffic ariel next weekend.
I think a USB extension cable won't work as I think the garmin unit will think it's connected to a pc?
I'll take a pic of the power cable routing next weekend, basically you need to feed the cable to where the nav will be located, next put h panel back in place. The cable end should be protruding 3 or 4 inches to the right from behind the left centre air vent...then put it in back of nav and push into place... I think!

Dave,
Thanks for your idea! I just installed mine with Wayteq (a Chines) GPS navigation which has the latest GPS chipset. It works great.
I added a twist to the implementation. I have the base model which does not have the front parking distance control button on the central dash (it is just a black cover). I bought the switch set for HSE, which has that switch (thanks Simon) and wired with some electronics that when I press the front parking distance button, the GPS gets +5V through USB cable and when I press it again it switches off the power.

Fantastic thread, everyone! I'm planning on doing this as soon as I can get the D4 (LR4) surround, which I haven't had much luck locating here in the States from our local dealers.
Would anyone have an idea as to where I might be able to source the part to have it shipped to the US?
