Forgot to say also need to install my parrot hands free. Had it fitted once before but took it out. Don't know if I have all the leads may need some advice or someone to fit it for me.

I'm looking forward to seeing pictures! I've got my bits, just need to fit it. I've put the land rover screen on the sat nav which looks great.

Why are you using the parrot, I'm just going to use the 1490 bluetooth. I don't know how well the mic will work behind the frame, if not very well I'll either drill a small hole in the D4 surround in front of the sat nav mic, or wire in another mic to go closer to me.

I'm also going to have a play with the speaker output. I'm hoping I may be able to wire in the sat nav as a phone to the stereo so when the sat nav would speak, it will mute car stereo playing the sat nav voice into the front speakers. It may work... probably not! Worth a try! Very Happy

It's good to know the tv function is working well. Very Happy

Dont know how to post multiple photos so the rest are in my gallery. Bit to sunny so the pics are not the best. Tried the bluetooth and it was not great person on the other end had trouble hearing me and that was parked up so will be worse at motorway speeds. Will still be going with the parrot.

That's a smart job there Thumbs Up A good meet at the bottom of the surround and the mat too well done.

Cheers Dave. To get the mat to fit I needed to push the unit back quite far. But doing this the sat nav touches the bottom of the cubby hole pushing it up a bit. You can see this in one of my photos, revelling the top of the word "Garmin". May take the front of the sat nav off to see if this makes a difference. Hope that makes sense. All in all though very pleased with the results. I do have one question though. How did you come up with the idea as it is inspired Bow down

Andy, Taking the front off may be extreme but i would also consider it, but may be wise to just black out or tape over garmin perhaps. The writing may not even bother you after a while, we analyse things too much when we first do them!

I like playing about but the original idea was when the D4 GS came out, it was either my own idea or mooted by someone who used to post on this forum, SN I believe - cant think whether it was him or me that really did mention it first Laughing Then I executed it albeit with a smaller screen than others that followed.

I use the D4 at present but the D3 is still around and we are using it for this years rally too. The dash remains smart and easy on the eye and runs tomtom now, certainly not offensive when compared to the new one (which goes soon anyway so back to the D3 for good)

I have now installed an integrated ipad2 mount in the D3 too, it's an "always there" mount which may not suit many but the iPad still detaches as it will only be required for certain journeys.

I am very proud that this thread spans 14 months, 13,600 views and 14 pages, glad to have helped Thumbs Up

The light is poor now, it looks a lot better in daylight. Acquired taste! But suits me. The trial mount with clear Perspex and early alloy mount is in the bottom 2 pics just to show a daylight version. The mount is essentially an extension of the Brodie holders.

The iPad cover holds the iPad onto the mount as its flap slides down the back sitting in the channel hence the narrower second layer of Perspex, the two front round bumpers just position it. Solid off road. When sat in driver and pass seat the heating, iPad and satnav all in direct view you can't really catch it with a camera. I only leave the stereo on aux for iPod so don't need access to that.

I've fitted mine... yay! I've tried the bluetooth phone, but not driving. It sounded ok from my end, ordering to the wife sounded like I was in the bath but it'll be barely used so I'm happy with that..... as long as it's ok when driving! I drilled some very small holes next to the microphone hoping that may help, and it's barely noticeable.

I wasn't able to wire it upto the stereo. I could if I had a relay than could be switched from a speaker signal, but going for a 5 minute drive with it, I think it's probably better using the garmin speaker, as it bongs a fair bit....

I'm very happy with it. I didn't have any mecano, but using a glue gun seemed to work very well holding it in place.

The reverse camera doesn't seem to work with it! Sad not sure why...

I wanted to post photos, but not sure how?

To get the camera to work I think you need to select the TV function. Not sure if the image will come up automatically when selecting reverse. Don't know if this will have an effect on watching tv with the camera constantly plugged in.

Darn.. I should have checked the tv function. It gets wired up to the reversing lights, so will only work when in reverse. I checked it without fitting it just a 12v source to the camera, I'll try again tomorrow but go into the tv function!

All looks really nice... very happy! Very Happy

Sorted Mr. Green

I bought a 4 pole right angled 3.5mm jack plug , cut off the yellow RCA and soldered the wires so when reverse is selected the reverse camera comes up without the need to select TV function Thumbs Up
