The camera is stuck on rear window, as it's a wide angled lens it shows quite a bit. It doesn't show the tow bar itself but about up to a foot from the tow bar. I'll take a photo of it tomorrow. The wires goto the top of the tailgate and go into roof lining and down to lhs rear cubbyhole, I have an inverter there along with some 12v outputs. You could use the rear 12v output in the boot space but it cuts the power when the ignition is switched off, ok if you want that but I leave it running sometimes when I leave the car.

Here is my camera on the rear window
Might put outdoor maps on too, osmaps, here shown at garmin, a bit steep in price but I'm sure they can be cheaper elsewhere

why didn't you use the camera that fits in door handle of boot that replaces one nmb plate light as you would get a better picture surely?.

think I found out why you could not get tv with reverse camera. if you look at garmins av cable it has four poles but the one you put a pic up of only has three, have just got one and workes fine for mine anyway.
all the best

Congratulations for the great idea!
I don't understand how you can turn on / off the navigator ....
The power button is on the navigator!
Dismount you whenever you turn?? Is there an easier way?Diego

First of all, I would like to give a big thankyou to all the guys here. Everything I've managed to do myself (DVD Screens, Tailgate, SAT NAV) was only made possible because of the help I've received here. Thank you guys.
Ok, So I eventually got round to installing the SatNav using the D4 surround and based it on Lad's excellent install.
I picked up the D4 surround from my local dealer and hacked away using a dremmel as per the instructions at the begining. next was the purchase of a Garmin 1490LMT and Eco Route HD so that I could get diagnositc info from the car and all the nice dials you see in Lad's pic's!
My first hurdle was how to provide power without having any visible leads. So i removed the H trim, and using a drill made a hole in the console (where the OEM SATNAV would be) big enough to fish through the garmin power cable. Next, I purchased a new 12V connector (which I think we all have next to the ashtray) from the dealer and hooked that up inside or behind the H trim using a splitter to split the incoming power feed to the front 12v socket and the new socket behind the trim when i put the H trim back. Garmin power suppy plugs directly into this and therefore is hidden from view and still free's up the socket next to the ashtray. hope that part makes sense.
next was installing the Garmin behind the D4 surround. My original plan was to follow the earlier posts and create the brace to hold the gps in place. However, I didnt like how the 1490 wasnt flush with the surround so I decided to remove the front outer casing of the gps and then brace the gps as per the posts here. Now I have a totally flush gps to the D4 surround, and aligned perfectly.
Final step was to mount the D4 surround which was straight forward, and reattach the H Trim.
I've included some pic's in my gallery to show the final setup. Sorry, i didnt take any as I went but if anyone wants to attempt it, I'll help as much as I can.
Thanks again to everyone.

With Garmin units you do not need to use the onboard power button, it will work with the ignition going on and off (ithe touch screen does allow you to also override this turning off each time too, so useful if only stopping for a coffee or in long traffic)
I do not know what other units do.Captain Nick Medhurst would ask:
"What is the first rule when overlanding?"
I would Reply:
"Duratrac"

Thanks to Dave for starting this thread and all the input from the other guys who made this possible for me to do the retro fit sat nav with the D4 surround
Just need to permanently fix the tv aerials in place on the rear side windows (cheers lad ) and get the traffic aerial upto the screen .

looks good, my traffic aerial goes across dash (behind the dash) and comes out at the passenger side and up to the screen. It doesn't always pick up traffic though

What a great thread!
Think I'm definitely going to do this, I get the Sat Nav (anyone fitted one that didn't need cutting of the case?), the surround and getting power, all relatively easy, but couple of quick questions;
1. Does the standard sat nav need an additional aerial? (I see some have talked around the traffic aerial)
2. Has anyone used it as their phone bluetooth as well?
Cheers
Andy

Looks a good idea! Any tips, where did you mount the TV Aerial? I see it even takes a reversing camera!

I mounted the tv aerials on the back rear side windows one each side. One aerial vertical and the other horizontal.
