Mine looked like yours after 114,000Km

Daily comute to work and back 36Km with 3 times a week highway run to Jo'burg 70Km.

I also use 2 stroke oil 350ml to the 75litres at fill-up.

my D3 TDV6 has done 122kl and fuel consumption is poor - about 13 lt /100 (has a roof top tent on top and running muddies) - when towing a small 12ft off road van on the bitumen the consumption is about 18lt /100km
Would blanking help (don't really know what it does) I've had a remap (tune) done - results in a little better power but other wise hard to tell any difference

any help would be appreciated

Ian, I just have to ask: are you referring to adding 2-stroke oil to the diesel when filling up as mentioned later? Shocked

It may be a well discussed and documented technique, just haven't come about it yet...

If it will help protect/clean the engine, it will be well worth me having a go at this - after cleaning the sensor - the diesel in this part of the world is complete Censored

Hi Trackman,I am using 2T oil @ 1:200(400ml/80L).I recently blanked my EGR's and at the same time cleaned the MAP sensor.I was surprised at how clean the EGR thing is where it dumps the dirty air in the manifold and the MAP needed very little cleaning Thumbs Up I use 50ppm diesel when available. My car has done 102000km's Whistle

Question asked as a non techie but here goes. If the EGRs are blanked does that mean that air pulled into the manifold will be clean, i.e. no exhaust fumes to gunk things up? If that's the case wouldn't blanking help prevent gunning up? It's difficult to see this as the sensors could have been gunking up from day 1. If this still happens when blanked, is this gunk oil from the turbo or where has it come from? Remember asked as a non techie so answers in less than 5 sylabels per word please.

On most cars there will always be a small amount of oil going through the air intake system from the crankcase breather which would connect into the low pressure side, (before the turbo,) it comes in initially as hot oil vapour which condenses in the intercooler and pipework.

I'm not sure where it connects in on the D3 though. Confused

Just cleaned mine 20 mins ago(67k miles)
non-blanked EGR's but moderately dirty MAP sensor.
Took if for a quick run and didnt get it up to temp, but I reckon it had a noticeably cleaner response at low revs....
will wait and see if that was wishful thinking or genuine improvement

Just bumping this question as I would be very interested to read about the merits of doing so if I have understood this correctly Whistle

Sorry guys but I´m gonna shout:

THIS TOPIC HAS THE WRONG TITLE! IT SHOULD BE "GO AND CLEAN YOUR MAP SENSOR NOW"

I just cleaned it and the difference is remarkable. Engine is much more alive and quicker on accelleration. This is by far the best, easiest and quickest mod I have ever done.

I guess that the higher the milage on your car the bigger the improvement.

Now go and do this!

PS: Isn't it sad that probably not a single stealer will do this for you or is even aware of this?

PPS: Mods this is defenitely one for the Wiki
