Anybody else notice MPG was higher when new compared to now [and no, I don't reckon its becasue you think you take more care of your new baby]...conversely.. I used to have to top up engine oil several times when new [up to first service], since then I've not had to add a drop???
Any explanations???
The oil is partly due to new engine syndrome (where the bits are settling in) and particulary the slightly porous nature of the TDV6 engine block. That is why new vehicles need to be closely monitored for oil levels for the first 5,000 miles.
On the consumption, the opposite would be the norm. Engine and gearbox loosening up, tyre resistance dropping, etc. So higher consumption with age is not what I'd expect. One possibility is that the adaptive box has learnt your driving style, which isn't as economical as the factory default.....

Thanks for explanation Winger
Although I would question whether the 'factory default' would be more economical than my already frugal driving style [IAM driver]. I partialy base this on:- when switching my cruise control back on to a pre-programmed speed, the vehicle accelerates far quicker than I would under manual acceleration. [but that opinion may be grossly flawed?]

No diesels available here at home. I envy your MPG. '06 LR3 4.4 V8 HSE Heavy Duty package, Satellite Radio, Luxury Package
That matches what I used to do in my Disco2, with 32" tyres, but in the D3 TDv6, I get around town, about 12.5l/100km (19mpg), and even better out of town...
cheers

Yeah, I'm getting 10 mpg in the city here with the V8 SE....it's actually worse than an H2....
Remember your gallon is 20% smaller than ours so you are getting 12 mpg (imperial gallon). My old V8 RR Classic used to do that. Ouch! Mind you your fuel is 33p per litre for gasoline ($2.5/US Gal at $1.97/£), we pay about 90p per ltr for diesel so it's not too bad for you.
Well in the interests of the forum, I filled up and reset the trip computer on tuesday morning. 820 miles to Dundee along the M6, through the lake district (got bored and was hungry) Over the Kirkstone pass, through the floods and back up M6, Glasgow, Stirling and onto Dundee. Then exactly the same route home yesterday. 80-90 on the M6, around 75-80 through Scotland and some spirited driving through the lakes.....
32.2 MPG
Happy with that."To finish first, one first has to finish ...."

Disco3, TDV6, Auto, Java Black with Zermatt Silver detail, Alpaca Leather, 20"Stormers with 295 Conti's, Alu Side Tubes, Crossbars, Sill Plates, Tow Pack. Also with Light Guards & G4 badging [not on photos]...and now some MUD!! -
Mine is about 3/4 tonne lighter than yours
I thought the computer was wrong too - so worked it out on the fill up receipt - seems about right 8)"To finish first, one first has to finish ...."

Hmmm...wasn't aware of that.... Is that similar to the cup size differences between the US and UK? ie 34C US is 34D UK? 2005 Zambezi V8 SE

I would get a normal overall average of approx 28.5MPG. On long runs I've seen it up to 34MPG over approx 200 miles!
However, I seem to have filled up with some kind of rubbish crap last time as I'm only getting 22MPG on this tank!
I had a manual commercial D3 (no rear seats, so light) out as a courtesy car while mine was getting some work done last week, and no matter what I did I couldn't get the MPG below 30! Was happily returning 35+ MPG.IE - 05 D3 TDV6 HSE - Zambezi Silver
SA - 07 VW Golf TDI - White - Sold!

The cold mornings do make a fair difference I'm afraid. Mine has dropped to 23 from 26, and I'm doing long journeys.
I hit a lot of traffic today though which did not help.
