I mentioned uneven running (hunting, enough to show on rpm needle, and cause engine to shake a bit) during the warming up period to my dealer, I don't know whether they adjusted anything, but mine seems to have dipped from 26mpg to 23mpg since they had it in 2 wks ago. I'm not sure whether it is just coincidence with the weather getting much colder, or if they have maybe adjusted the mixture (can they do this?) because the uneven running has got worse since then. As someone who has owned a D3 for a while Gareth,or any others, have you experienced this or have any ideas. If its been altered, I guess they have probably gone the wrong way, and I'll have to take it in again to be re set if that is possible. Rolling Eyes

Yes, I can confirm that mine does this too, it always has. It seems to coincide with the FBH running. It hunts enough to shake the car a little for about 10 minutes of the 15 minute traffic jam I encounter on the way to the M60. Once its warm its fine.

I would not worry, I am sure there is a reason but its probably very obtuse.

It's been cold and foggy, so there's smoke from the back, smoke from the front, and swirling fog!! Quite impressive, but to an onlooker very alarming!

I too have had the hunting with the needle up and down like a yo-yo. Its the economy that I can't live with. should of gone for V8 and not risked killing any occupants at roundabouts and junctions with the lag, it can't be any worse!

My FBH was operating well last night too (before the McD's debacle) - also plenty of roaring later on when I put the D3 away (after it had gone cold again)

The FBH doesn't use that much - something like 2.5 litres an hour from memory, more likely it's sitting in the traffic queues caused by cr@p drivers that causes the mpg to drop...

I would like your opinin if something could be wrong here....

I got my TDV6 auto in August....

Got 27 mpg the first month
Got 25 mpg after a visit to the dealer (engine sounded different) - suspected a sw update.
Now i get 21 mpg, and no matter how light footed, lots of coasting towards traffic lights, more highway type driving - i cannot get to the 25-27 mpg i was at before.

Is this normal (21 mpg) when trying to drive very fuel efficient ?

Cheers
Jakob

Just back from 4 days of driving in the d3, approx 1200 miles or so, the most I've ever done in such short period in the d3. Average fuel consumption over the 1200 miles is 28.8MPG. Quite a bit of this driving (time wise) was slow driving up steep mountain tracks, and probably 500 miles or so of it on very poor back roads - lots of bends, acceleration, braking, etc. On the first 2 days the FBH seemed to be running constantly (whenever I got out I could smell it, and whenever I stopped the engine I could hear it running), as there was freezing fog.

I also witnessed this 'hunting' and the vehicle shaking slightly as the revs fluctuated after a cold start, and was a bit worried about it, but thankfully due to this forum I no longer need to worry about it! Very Happy

TDV6 Fuel Consumption

I had my HSE upgraded (software) recently and one of the immediate effects was a much lower (general) diesel consumption - I logg 10-11 liters/100 km traveling at 110km/h with winter tires.

Check with your local LR dealer if it's applicable to your version. I have a 2005 HSE (built in Jan 2005).

Cheers
