No secrets as such and I didn't crack 30mpg on my D3 (just shy of 29 mpg for my running average) but my Disco tips for mpg:
- Don't drive like Miss Daisy as the car likes to breath and exercise the turbo.
- Don't floor it either and look to cruise rather than achieving outright speed.
- Anticipate massively and adjust speed with throttle and not the brake - touching the brake burns money.
- Keep the accessories to the minimum:
-- Do not fit RAI, boards, racks or bars unless you really need them.
-- Do not carry or fit dead weight.
- Keep mechanically sound:
-- Change the air filter every year.
-- Check and maintain your tyre pressures.
-- Get a milage app as unexplained drops will alert you to mechanical issues (brakes, EPB, air intakes, hoses etc).
- Garage your car (if possible) in the winter to avoid cold engine starts.
- For a D3 only - consider a remap.

HI Robbie,i think a remap might be a good start,i always drive on the rev counter and noticed the revs required for moving off are around 12 to 1500 so for weight i suppose thats resonable for an auto but just putting her in drive without touching accelerator she moves off, what do you think?colin.senior citizen still learning.

30.4 was my best to date with the D3 and I had kept that up for some time through careful driving very much as Robbie explains until I towed my trailer with a 2 ton weight over the weekend I'm now down to 30.2.

My running average over 8k according to my fuel app is 23.61mpg.
That includes winter, and several off road days which knocked the mpg down.
My driving is a lot of town journeys though with less motorway for the moment.
I do need the duffs and auto box fluid changed though. In loving memory of FA54WSK.
34.5 mpg over 500 miles, fully loaded with family, dogs and luggage. Mid Wales to Surrey and back in mixed conditions including 20 odd miles mountain road each way. Traffic cues, diversions, wind, but when going steady, around 65 -68 mph. Its definitely worth staying a touch below 70, 55 - 65 probably best most of the time. I add half a pint of 2 stroke oil (mineral) per full tank.Lightweight Land Rovers have the quirk factor!

30.8 is my best to date but dropped to 30.6 a few weeks ago after I gave it a few days hard excelerating to clear carbon deposits, worked a treat and is now 30.7, steadily crawling back up. I try to keep below 2k revs.
Driving with dainty feet is great for economy but no good for the EGR valves - got to blow that carbon out. Best fuel economy I've managed is since the remap... As long as I don't get carried away with the extra power 😉

I envy you guys with the diesels but I'm got the V8 down to as low as 11.3 lts per 100 kms (24-25 mpg) in my first week of ownership so I'm not complaining. It goes back up by around a 1/2 km (11.7) when I get into town. My 300TDi was between 9.5-10.5 lts per 100 kms.
Most of my driving is on backroads into work and I average about 90 kph while keeping the rpms just over 1500 as much as possible.
It's currently winter, with ethanol added to the fuel, and I'm running regular, not premium. Might even get better in the summer months.

Guys, I'm new to this and collect my D3 in the morning.
What is the significance of the two stroke oil? How does it improve MPG and what kind of ratio do you add it?
Mine is a 2005 2.7 diesel with blanked EGRs

In my testing I didn't see any noticeable change in mpg. My average increased by just under 0.2 mpg which is well within the margin of error.Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948

Ok so I cheated a bit, on way back from pub night (my turn to drive)...reset it on M5 from Clevedon to WSM, and did 57mpg for about 8 miles as well as a bit of coasting down the slip road......anyway, at least now I can pretend that my D3 does nearly 38mpg Iggy/Ieuan

MY55 D3; Auto, EGR's blanked when 12 months old, cleaned MAP sensor, new air filter, fuel filter every 12 months and oil/filter change half recommneded interval.
My average MPG 22.5, Geof carried out a gear box flush in September since then averaged 23.5 mpg, I rarely reset the average MPG.

Todays figure:
407 miles / 77 litres of Morrisons best = 24 mpg
Just so happens, that is exactly what the dash display states - spooky

I am driving to Scotland tomorrow with a 500 mile journey. I am in no rush so what speed do people recommend for getting the best mpg out of my D3? I know that official figures are calculated at 56mph but is that because it gives the best economy?Autologic remap, Superpro front lower bushes. Privacy Glass. 4x4 info enabled.
