Done the repair, the worst part of it is getting to the actuator with the boot shut, a bruised hand and a few cuts on my arm. The end of the cable had snapped off. I used the allen key and electrical connector to do it and its as good as new, thanks for the info

Hi guys, my boot failed to open lastnite on my 08 disco 3. I had the switch replaced around march this year & it seems ok. I can hear the catch trying to work & after trying to open it around 5 times it seems to cut out for a few seconds then resets itself again. Is this normal & does it sound like the cable or actuator is at fault? Thanks. Simon. Great forum by the way!!

Well after an extended period away i'm back with a broken tailgate latch
In Cornwall last week and got the dreaded clunk click ! thro process of ilimination and a few phone calls and Texts later i'm into the boot and have no cuts or scrapes, All i need now is a replacement uprated wire and latch and a rear tailgate handle preferably in Tonga Green ? Only dead fish go with the Flow !

Looks like my actuator cable has snapped. I've managed to release the panel on the lower tailgate and have a 4-5" gap where I can slide in my tools. I've cut off the foam panel and can see a big hole with the end of a rectangular black lump and assorted cables. To the left of it is a 15mm diameter hole.
I've been following a LR set of instructions and the next step is to put a flat head screwdriver into the round hole and push the leaver etc. I've wiggled the screwdriver around without success. What sort of action is needed? What's the best tool? I've put a 90 degree bend in an old small screwdriver so that I can work in the area. However, pushing it, dragging it left to right, right to left etc does nothing.

I think you need to get inside that black plastic box as that's where the actuator is, it pulls on a cable that it like a bicycle brake cable with an inner wire inside a sheath

This forum is awesome!
The tailgate wouldn't open as per the threads. I ordered the latch and sure enough the L shaped part of the cable had snapped. I replaced it tonight and works a treat. Thanks to the information here it was straight forward.
The only question is. Does anyone have the p/n for the large foam seal we attack to get to the actuator?
