Mikey makes an interesting point ....if we are factoring in other models which feature the V6 then that could drastically increase my number of estimated failures in the 'normal' anticipated %age
It would be helpful if Oval could advise on the model and age the failures come from when the time comes
This one was from a 64 plate D4 with 72k on the clock. Only 1 service entry on Topix from last October @ 71k. I'm guessing the owner has some legal standing on this one Joe

Oval Autos are an 'Independent Land & Range Rover' garage and have not specified which model the sweepstake applies to.....so I am taking it as any models of LR or RR
Yep, just LR & RR. 2.7 or 3.0

A bit more detail on the snap...
If you look closely, you can see that the main bearing shell #2 has turned. This cut off the oil feed to that journal, which caused the crank to overheat and snap. Probably because the back 4 cylinders were working hard and the front 2 were seizing.
As to why the bearing turned, more than likely because of no oil filter and rubbish getting on the bearing.

Well that’s the closest evidence I’ve seen on here to establish the actual failure path of these snapped cranks!
I’ll pitch at 9. 👍

.
So how will that get repaired then? And what's the sort of cost to sort that failure?

Don't worry, I've started a spreadsheet to keep all the guesses.
I've also started this on RRSPORT.
This thread may need a bump from time-to-time.

And I’d suggest disqualifying anyone that’s edited their “entry post”, otherwise everyone will be bunging a 1 or 2 in front of their guess as the year progresses.
Says he that no longer has any crank worries.
